One of my favourite songs. Makes me weep nowadays.

Peter, I feel the same way. I keep wondering how I got to be this old. My 50th college reunion was a few years back. It boggled my mind.

such a beautiful song. heard it first on judy collins’ album of the same name (with tracks by some of the best new songwriters of the decade). Fairport released their recording of it the next year. not only was denny’s voice so different from collins’, but the band behind her was equally extraordinary.
every time i hear it, it stops time, and then lets it go….

Sandy Denny wrote the song and recorded it as a demo in 1967. That was what Judy Collins heard. She then released it in ’68. She was also the first one I heard sing it. That same year Sandy Denny joined Fairpoint Convention, and they released the song. The versions are a bit different. Judy has this lament about her when she sings it. I too find the band behind Denny’s voice extraordinary.
