“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!!!”

The sun is brilliant. Little is moving. Today is a calm day. It is also a cold day. I started my day sharing a banana with the dogs, having a bagel with cranberry apple jam which I also shared and two cups of coffee. The coffee is delicious, a new bag came the other day. It is from Mexico. I’m going to have another cup.

I don’t know when I first started drinking coffee every day. It was probably in college. My friends and I met every morning at the same table in the canteen. We’d race to be the first to finish the crossword puzzle in the paper. We’d laugh a lot. I remember we’d all turn our backs to whichever friend was talking. It drove all of us crazy, but it didn’t stop us. It was too funny. One of those friends came to visit me in Ghana. I loved showing him my country, but after that, I lost track of those friends while I was in Ghana. We wrote for a while then we didn’t. They went on with their lives while I led a different life. I made new friends who were sharing that different life. They are still my friends.

Nala’s thievery has taken an odd turn. This morning I did yard patrol. I could see paper towels strewn about so I took my prisoner’s stick and a trash bag. It didn’t take long as there were few papers, but I did find something she had stolen from my laundry basket, a pair of underwear. I was thrilled I found it before anyone saw it. Saying my dog did it seemed silly and a bit unbelievable, a sort of my dog ate my homework excuse.

My mother always bought an enormous turkey. It served for Thanksgiving dinner and supper that night when we always had open turkey sandwiches covered with gravy. I loved another leftover, toasted turkey sandwiches with stuffing and cranberry sauce. My second favorite was turkey salad followed closely by turkey soup. My father stripped the carcass. I used to watch him in wonder. He was proud of his talent of leaving no meat on the bone.

My partner grew up with a cat who would routinely steal the family’s dirty underwear from the hamper and leave it in the front hall. My MIL used to say when bringing company home, you’d have to open the door just a smidge and make sure the entryway was clear before inviting your guest in the rest of the way.

      Sporite,
I am so glad it isn’t just Nala. The cat, though, is even funnier leaving it in the hall!

And so it has started. The house is filling up with Thanksgiving relatives of Mrs MDH and I am focused for the only time in my life with the goings on in Qatar.

England got off to a fast start hammering the Iran team 6-2. It was noticeable that none of the Iranian players chose to single their national anthem and I salute that protest. Now I am waiting for 2 pm EST when the US takes on those rascals from Wales and in particular Gareth Bale.

Did I casually mention that the Lions have won 3 in a row ? Good grief

      My Dear Hedley,
Our whole family used to get together at my parents’ for Thanksgiving. I went early on Wednesday so I could be the sous chef and take decorator. In their house, it was always football and more football.

I saw the sports news about the Iranian team’s protest and England’s win. I’m glad for you!!

      What’s with those Lions?

    Hi Kat,

Today is cloudy and chilly with a low of 41° and a high of 51°. This cold snap is forecasted to continue until Saturday and Sunday when the highs for next week will be in the mid 70s. I can’t wait.

Did Nala steal clean or dirty underwear? The clean ones are okay, you just don’t want to air your dirty laundry to all your neighbors. 🙂

I’m not a fan of turkey because there’s almost no dark meat on a commercial bird. INMHO, the dark meat has all the flavor. The poultry industry has bread turkeys with huge breasts, almost no legs, little thighs, and very small brains. Of course there’s no other animal as dumb as a turkey. If a flock are outside and it starts to rain, they will all look up with open mouths and drown themselves. Science tells us that birds are the descendants of the dinosaurs. If so, imagine the mighty Trex knowing that his far in the future prodigy is now a turkey. 🙂

      Hi Bob,
We will be warmer starting on Wednesday. The weekend will be in the mid to high 50’s. When I talk to my sister yesterday who lives in Colorado it was 4°.

She stole the underwear from the dirty laundry basket in my bedroom. I doubt anyone would have seen it as my yard is completely fenced in and no neighbors can see inside the yard.

Sorry to spoil your turkey in the rain story but scientists say the idea that turkeys drown that way is just a myth. It does make a good story though. It is true they are descendants of dinosaurs. It is the same with chickens. Both have experienced fewer gross genomic changes than other birds.
