“I constantly make lists and itineraries and then can’t stick to any of them.”
This morning is another delight. The sun is brilliant, a squint your eyes brilliant. The blue sky is cloudless. A now and again breeze blows the leaves on the oak tree. It will in the mid 60’s today. I think I’ll go on the deck and close up the umbrellas and work toward the tables and chairs.
I have ambitions for today, but, of late, I seldom finish my lists of chores. I start out enthusiastically but peter out quickly. Yesterday I did reorganize the four drawers in the small bureau in the hall. That was on the list a few days ago. I found a few surprises like a whole set of antique place card holders of Chinese people, men and women with slits in their heads for the cards. I found beach pail place card holders and porcelain animals, also with slits in their heads. I’m thinking I need to do a dinner so I can use the Chinese holders. I’m already planning a menu in my head of all time favorites like muhammara. I haven’t made that in a while. Maybe I’ll just do a whole Moroccan meal. Oops, there I go again, starting out enthusiastically.
When I was a kid, I loved days like today for roaming all over town, sometimes on my bike but other times, the railroad track days, just walking. I knew all of the streets in every direction. Sometimes I rode into the next town like Reading, where the train station was, or Woburn with Horn Pond, or Wakefield with the lake and the teepee, or to Winchester just for the ride, or to Spot Pond where I’d plan to sneak in and swim but never did, and to my favorite stop, the Zoo. If I walked, I usually followed the tracks to the station or went uptown to the library and to window shops at all the stores. I’d bring my lunch knowing I’d be gone most of the day. I was mostly by myself.
My laundry is beginning to be a substantial pile. I’m almost ready to do a wash, but I don’t want to be rash.

Hi Kat,
Today started out sunny with a low of 63° and a high of 87°. A beautiful day fall day.
Today my better half and I went to Main Street in Grapevine to walk around and visit the many small shops along the street. The city fathers have done an amazing job of promoting Grapevine as a tourist attraction. They have preserved the many buildings along the street including the old city hall. We found a wonderful candy emporium with numerous bins filled with taffy of hundreds of unusual flavors. They also carry all kinds of exotic soft drinks from all over the country and hard to find candies. Another store sold only all kinds of olive oils and balsamic vinegars. They had both products flavored with numerous kinds of things, such as peach, jalapeños, garlic, and whatever. They sell the products in various size bottles which are refillable at the store. We tasted several varieties in small paper cups. We also visited a small farmer’s market with high priced produce. Other stores carry cloths and others Texas souvenirs. It was a fun morning. There are several restaurants on Main Street but we ate lunch in my favorite barbecue place in town. It’s family owned and was originally located on Main Street, but has relocated nearby.
When I was a kid in Dallas I rode my bike all over our neighborhood and explored the surrounding neighborhoods. Like you I had a lot of freedom to go anywhere as long as I was home by dark.

Hi Bob,
Your low was only a few degrees lower than our high, and it was a delightful day.
Your day sounds like my sort of a day, one I’d love. We have similar stores all around, but not all in one place except maybe in Chatham, which is a bit of a ritzy town. I do love olive oil stores with all sorts of aromatic oils and spices. I like to try new flavors, and I often offer flavored oil for dipping bread as an appetizer. There are a couple of wonderful candy stores around. They even have penny candy for a nickel or a dime. The one in Chatham is a tasty chocolate store. I love their chocolate covered peeps. All in all it sounds like Grapevine could also be on the cape.
Yup, that old street light alarm clock!

I forgot about the two chocolate stores. I can’t enter those without spending a fortune. 🙂

While I’m getting good at making more room in my place, the laundry has been a fixture for far too long. I have a plan, but I won’t tell the laundry.
It’s getting cooler here, but the afternoons and morning are warm.
I haven’t been feeling well lately, but wanted to say hi.

Hi Lori,
I am going to do one load tomorrow and the next load a couple of days later. The laundry is just so heavy to lug up two flights of stairs.
The nights have been cold here the last few nights, and the house is usually cooler than outside in the mornings. I put the heat on to warm it up then turn the heat off.
Feel Better!!!
