“Children have no fear of their dolls coming to life, they may even desire it.”
Today is another cold, windy, cloudy day with rain expected. It is currently 54°. My house was chilly enough this morning that I turned on the heat for a while. I need cozy today. It is a sweatshirt day, a flannel day.
I don’t even have a dance card. My uke still has to wait for my finger to settle down. The good news is it’s my strumming finger, not my chord finger, so I’ll be back soon. I really miss my uke.
When I was a kid, I was never really into dolls except for a brief dalliance with my Ginny doll. She was small. Her legs could be moved, and she could walk. I used to comb her hair. My Ginny was well dressed. She had fantastic outfits. She had furniture, pink furniture. One Christmas, under the tree, were new clothes and new furniture. Ginny got a bed and a wardrobe which was filled with clothes on small, red plastic hangers. My mother and my aunt had made the clothes. Ginny looked spiffy that Christmas. Amazingly enough, that same Ginny doll of mine is kept on a high shelf in my bedroom safe from Nala. Her outfit is yellowed and her hair needs combing, but she is still beautiful despite her years.
I always envied my mother’s coloring talents. She was delicate with her colors. I was blunt. She stayed inside the lines. I sort of meandered in and outside the lines. Using only one crayon she could shade the color so it looked like many colors. Her blue was a light blue, a dark blue and a sort of middle of each blue. Mine was just blue. She and I used to sit at the kitchen table and color. In the middle of the table were the crayons from the cigar box where they were kept. The crayons were all different sizes. Some had no paper wrapped around them so we had to guess the colors. I tended to be a traditionalist. I even colored the clouds white though you couldn’t tell unless you rubbed your hand across them. We tended not to talk too much as we concentrated on our masterpieces, but those times with my mother were among my favorites of all.

Hi Kat,
Today it was a bit chilly when I left the house for work. It was a cool 57°. The sky is clear blue and the high temperature will peak at a pleasant 85°.
Glad to hear that your finger is doing as good as could be expected. I read your post last night after ten and decided not to send a reply at that late hour. The annual State Fair of Texas opened its run for the month last Friday. We haven’t gone for years because it’s the same thing every year. When my kids were young we took them a couple of times to ride the rides and see the animals in the agricultural building. Eventually they got bored and you can buy Fletchers Corny Dogs in the grocery store. The other exhibits are the same every year. Next Saturday is the annual Red River Shootout football game between the University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma which is played in the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park. It’s definitely a day to stay away from the fair.
My sister loved her dolls. She had a doll named, “Betsy Wetsy”. You gave the doll a bottle of water and it peed it out into a diaper. My sister loved it and I laughed when the water leaked out. 🙂 I was not a nice big brother.

Hi Bob,
Your morning was the high temp of my day. I put on a thick sweater as I was chilly. Tomorrow will be a bit warmer but rainy. Luckily, we have had a bit of rain lately to alleviate the drought.
The fairs are such a symbol of fall. Here it is the Topsfield Fair. It has all the agricultural buildings and a biggest pumpkin contest. This year’s winner weighed 433 pounds. They have no chickens this year because of avian flu.
I used to go to the Barnstable Fair which is always in the summer, but like yours, it felt boring after a few years.
I remember the Betsy Wetsy doll. I think one of my friends got one for Christmas. I was not into dolls then.

Today was pretty much the same thing here. The house temp. was about 61 deg. That’s getting too cool for me. Turned on the heat just to take the chill & damp out of the house. Set the temp. for 66 deg. for right now. Don’t need to have it up much further until it really starts getting cold. It will soon enough. Didn’t play with dolls that much either. Boys don’t do that! However, there was one in my past that I did. My Mother bought me a “Davy Crockett Doll” when we were down in Tennessee. I did like it. Coonskin cap and all! It’s still cloudy, damp, and rather cold yet. Darn storm won’t go away! I haven’t made any Posts lately, because I don’t really know what to say that others might like. I always seem to have that problem.

Hi Les,
I also needed to turn on the heat, and I put on a sweater. The day got a bit warmer but not enough. I was chilly last night so I’m going to add a blanket to my bed.
I remember those Davy Crockett dolls. I think my brother might have had one.
We’re supposed to have rain tomorrow. That makes it three ugly, chilly days in a row. I’m glad I have nothing planned tomorrow.
Just say whatever you want. I think you’re being harsh on yourself. I know I never worry about what people might like or not. I write what I like! You should too.

Thank you for the reply. I also added another blanket to our bed. Just getting a bit too cold for this old body. It’s still breezy here, wet, and just plain miserable! Sun supposed to return tomorrow. Maybe. One thing I noticed is there are no pics of what you look like. I seem to want to see who I’m talking with. Be well, up there. Your advice has been noted. I’ll work on that.

Les,
I have posted several pictures on Facebook though most of them are older, my Peace Corps days. I just haven’t haven’t recent pictures taken. I’ll work on it!
It is raining right now. The dogs are wet and my floor is muddy. I’ve added a sweater and socks to keep me warm. I think we are supposed to have a warm day later in the week.

Hi Kat,
I talked for my dolls. My sister was more serious, she cut their hair off and said it grow back. I had barbies, for a while, and some Madame Alexander dolls. My favorite toys were the mechanical toys that moved.
I know I take some creepy pictures and post them, and then I wonder what the doll might say. What would I say.
The weather is great, warm days which gets cooler at night. The person who helps me de clutter will be by tomorrow. She understands me letting go of a doll, but wanting to keep a good doll head.
My eyes are closing now.
Take Care,
Lori

Hi Lori,
Not being a doll person we, my doll and I, did no talking. Barbies were not around when I was a kid. As I mentioned Ginny dolls were big. I didn’t have mechanical toys that I can remember, maybe a couple of windups.
Creepy is the adjective for this time of year!
The weather this week hasn’t been great with cold, damp days. I’m happy to be in the house and comfy.
My den is cluttered, but I wouldn’t part with many things here. I figure this is my room where I watch TV surrounded by the dogs. I really enjoy sitting here.
