In 1975 I lived in Houston and was working at a recording studio in Spring Branch. One October afternoon the recording engineer came in and asked if I wanted to sit in at a jam session for a private party with him and the owner. They were going to pass the hat so it paid some money and since the host was an executive for Epic there would be free food and booze too. Well we get there and get set up when Carole King comes in. I felt 2 inches tall.
I can’t recall this song. What record is it from. Of course I love it. I went to see her in Central Park, and of course she was great– but it was a Jewish holiday. Since we didn’t have cell phones, I’d walk to the pay phone and beg my mother to let me finish the concert. The more I begged the more she said no. Sadly, I had to leave early.
Kat,
You debil. My mother wouldn’t have believed me. I had promised before went to the concert that I would be return on time. I don’t think I could have gone against her wishes,
and see her look of sadness in her eyes. It must have been one of the very high holy days.

Beto,
What an amazing experience. I am jealous. Since her song writing days and especially after Tapestry, I have been the consummate fan!

I don’t remember where this is from though I do remember the song. I think it is an early one.
I think I wouldn’t have called and begged to stay. I’d have a ready excuse as to why not, maybe broken phone.

The promise changes it. You can never go back on a promise.
