    I remember the old grocery stores where the clerk would retrieve the canned goods from the shelf behind the counter. He would climb a ladder to reach the upper shelves. The ladder ran across the front of the shelves on a rod above the shelves and wheels on the floor.

      I didn’t go to a single store where they would have needed a ladder. THat reminds me of a library ladder, same technique.
