“We talked of mice, the cat and I, and of the importance of napping.”

Today was a chase Nala day. I got a small delivery in three bags. One bag had several items. Another bag had two frozen items, and the third bag had chips and wafer cookies, chocolate wafer cookies to make it even worse. I heard the bag, the chip and cookie bag, being pulled through the dog door with her. I ran outside and she was already off the deck. Henry didn’t see her either. I looked over the railing and saw her standing majestically with my bag of chips, sour cream and onion, in her mouth, both unopened. I slowly made my way down the stairs. She took off in a blur, chips in mouth. I got into the yard, but she was on the other side of the yard, on the other side of my very unkempt backyard filled mostly with tall brush. I stood my ground and offered treats as exchange. She got closer. She took off, a tease, a game I didn’t enjoy playing. Nala was all in. Finally, she dropped the chips where I could reach them. They were a little worse for wear, sort of crumbly from multiple trips around the backyard. Nala got her treat. I got my chips. I don’t know where the wafers are. They are on the list as having been delivered. I need to check the bag in the yard, but I don’t really want to trash pick today, even for the possibility for chocolate.

Today looked like fall. Today felt like fall. Google says it is 76, but it feels chillier in the shade: chillier is better than colder I guess. The sun appears infrequently as slanted light through the trees in my backyard. The summer light, which was scattered and diffused through the same trees, covered the whole backyard. This change in light signals the change in seasons when dark comes early and stays long.

When I was a kid, Tuesday was no big deal. Wednesday and Thursday were’t either. They were regular days with the same pattern for each day. It was wake up for school, eat breakfast, get dressed in my school uniform, walk to school, sit in school for a bit, eat lunch, have recess, sit for more, walk home, play, do homework, eat dinner, watch TV then go to bed to maybe read a bit, then, finally, turn out the light and go to sleep. If that list sounded boring, it was. There were no surprises. Rain and snow didn’t change anything unless it was a lot of snow, a snow day of snow, mostly an overnight event, and snow days were rare. We did stay in for recess on a wet day. We could talk and walk around the room. I got soaked if I walked home in the rain and frozen if I walked home in the snow. I liked the rain better. My clothes and I got dried quickly. Snowflakes, wet and icy on shoes and clothes, took longer to dry. Snuggling in bed under lots of covers and reading under the bedlam were my favorite ways to get dry. Often I fell asleep. I slept wonderful naps, comfy and warm naps, my favorite sort of naps still.

Tuesdays are special. It’s Doctor Who on TV with fish and chips Day 🙂
After some reruns we get new episodes with the latest doctor now. We’re 20 months behind UK due to dubbing and more but no problem, finally new stories. I was pleased to see Ada Lovelace tonight.
We watched the reruns without dubbing and sometimes it was easier to understand aliens then some British accents. In real life I’ve had language problems in Scotland too though we were lucky to have a native northern England teacher in school for a few years.
Today I read that British government now insists on passports when EU citizens want to visit UK, unfortunately that will make it difficult for young people and nearly impossible for school classes to see London and more. We can visit many countries with our ID-card so most of us and especially kids don’t have passports which are quite expensive. The world gets smaller but sadly this island is drifting away…

      Hi Birgit,
I would love your Tuesdays with Dr Who and fish and chips. It’s a day I would totally enjoy. I am waiting for the new season to start here. I think we are a season ahead of you.

I get a chuckle when they sometimes put subtitles on British programs here. They just figure we don’t speak the same language, and they are a bit right I think. Sometimes dialects throw me.

The whole thing of passports and what is or is not valid is crazy. Good luck.

There was a brief thought given to a vaccine passport here, but that died quickly. With the new vaccine targets outlined by Biden and the outbreak of the unvaccinated, they may not be such a bad idea.

    Hi Kat,

You never experienced the terrible two’s raising kids, but Nala makes those toddler days seem very ordinary and dull. Good luck, I still think a nice big crate would make your life easier. 🙂

Today we had some rain late in the afternoon and the temperature only reached a pleasant 80°. I’m sitting on my covered patio enjoying the nice breeze and the sun before dinner.

When I was a kid, like you, the middle of the week had no significance. Approaching Friday the tension increased because Friday was always a spelling test and an arithmetic test. Spelling was not my strong subject and I hated missing so many of the week’s spelling words. Thank goodness that technology came to the rescue with both spell checkers and electronic calculators. 🙂

After the tests were done and the grades recoded came the weekend with freedom from school.

      Hi Bob,
I don’t have the inclination to crate both dogs, and it would have to be both One can’t be free while the other isn’t. Henry’s crate would be about the size of a little under half a room. He is a big boy.

Much of what Nala does is when I am around so the crate wouldn’t stop her. I just have to pay more attention to my felon.

I used to have tests on Friday also. I was and am a really good speller. I even got the Spelling Ribbon. My father and brother were the bad spellers, my father being the worst.

Spell check changes correct words so I stopped using it. It drove me crazy.

I feel envy redaing that Birgit can see Doctor Who on tv! I don’t think a single channels shows it over here. I have to go to You Tube to be able to see it and I do follow it on Fb. I could see it back in the days when I lived in Gothenburg and had BBC Prime, never missed it. The fourth Doctor is my Doctor since it was he we watched all the time.

Rainy, windy and quite chilly over here, I don’t think it reached 50F at all. None of the dogs wanted to take a walk. Nala and Alma do behave much the same but Alma has so far not stolen an entire bag 🙂 🙂 🙂 I guess it’s just a matter of time though 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Hi Christer,
My PBS (Public Broadcasting Station) airs a lot of British programs including Dr Who, I can also get it on one of my pay channels. I forget which one. I don’t know which would be my favorite

Nala stole more stuff today. I bribed her to get her to drop the stolen goods. We traded stolen goods for dog cookies.

The sun finally came out, and it was a nice day after all. I didn’t go anywhere.

      Have a great day!
