“Be thankful for everything that happens in your life; it’s all an experience.”

The morning is cloudy, foggy and humid. It is already 78˚, the predicted high for the day. My AC is blasting. We all find it comfortable. I do have to go out today but late in the afternoon. Until then I’ll loll. I’ve already done far too much this morning. Let me tell you about this morning.

I am alive and well. The dogs are to blame. First up, Henry, who, when excited, twirls and jumps in the air. This morning he landed on a totally topped off filled with water dog bowl. The water went everywhere into two rooms, dining and kitchen. The dining room took the most water. At first I thought of rags, but then I remembered I have no rags. Paper towels were not even considered. Cleaning up would take a whole roll, and it was then I got my inspiration. I covered the water with newspaper for blotting purposes. I got my coffee and sat down.

I got the mail this morning, Saturday’s mail, from my box. I put it on the stairs. When I almost finished my coffee, saving a bit for Henry, I went to get more and looked on the deck. My mail was there. I found the four envelopes and the catalog then I remembered the large plastic envelope. I looked over the fence rail, and there it was torn apart with the invoice also in pieces. I went to do yard pick-up. I think I need one of those sticks with a nail of sorts so I can collect the paper without bending given how often I pick up what was trash and what has become trash. Anyway, the envelope had a plastic bottle prescription renewal. I looked all over the yard for the container. I didn’t find it. The grass in the back is too big and the pill bottle is too small. I checked for symptoms in case she ate the pills but then I wondered where she’d stash the bottle. No luck again. Right now she is sleeping, and I keep poking her. She seems fine. I called my pharmacy. They’re sending out another prescription overnight at no extra cost. Now I just keep Nala watch.

All of my adult life I have kept Saturday as a bit of a play day the same as it was when I was a kid. When I was in Ghana, unless I was the tutor on duty, I could do whatever I wanted on a Saturday. That maybe meant a trip to town on my motorcycle. I loved riding my moto, as the Ghanaians call it, and the town always seemed almost magical but not in the sense of eating fire or making your assistant disappear. It was the magic of being so far from home in a place so unfamiliar yet loving every minute of it. Each experience made me want to clap my hands with glee. I never tired of living in Ghana. It was always magical.

The joy of having dogs 🙂 🙂 🙂 Alma did much the same thing with the water bowl this morning but all water stayed in the kitchen, ttook for ever to clean up though and I do have a mop 🙂 🙂

Well we all know how difficult it is to give a pill to a dog so I doubt that she has eaten them, most pills taste nasty for most living things.

I’m learning all sounds Alma has and just a moment ago it sounded as if she had broken something, turns outy that it is the sound she makes when she can’t catch Albin when she’s chasing him 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Hi Christer,
I never thought about the mop. I guess because to me it just tends to move the water about. The newspapers worked perfectly. Just about all the water was gone.

Puppies are brutal. Nala is quite the sneaky thief. I never seem to catch her. I always assume when she gets up she is going out. Now I know she’ll take detours.

Henry and Nala do well together. They both make growling sounds.

      Enjoy your weekend.

    Hi Kat,

Have you considered a dog crate? They make some very comfortable ones these days. Have you considered obedience training? 🙂

Today is cloudy with a 50% chance of rain and a high temperature between 86° or 90° depending which app you want to believe. 🙂 Yet another summer cold front came through! Where O’ Where did the Texas summer go? Did it go to California or. Oregon? We still haven’t had a day that reached the century mark.

      Hi Bob,
I did have Gracie in a crate because she was crate trained when I got her. Nala isn’t and Henry would be free so that would present problems.

Nala steals things when I’m in the house. I was here this morning when she stole the mail from the stairs, I didn’t hear her or didn’t mind when she went out as she comes and goes through the dog door. I just have to keep things out of her reach.\

It is 72˚ and cloudy but no rain is predicted. It will be in the 70’s most of the week. The cape still needs mail.

    Hi Kat,
Rocky likes to chew the tops off bottles so when a bottle is empty, I give it to him to chew. I had a bottle of pills that I no longer took which had been sitting out on the table near the couch for about a year untouched by anyone human or canine. One evening, I walked into the living room to find the uncapped bottle on the floor surrounded by pills. I swept them up and counted them but wasn’t sure how many should be left but it was an almost full 90 day prescription and there weren’t 90 pills there. To be safe, I called the emergency vet and took Rocky down to be checked out. When I got there, they took him to the back area where owners aren’t allowed to go (which annoys me but that’s how they do it). An aide came back, handed me a sticky with a phone number on it and told me to call it. It was the poison control number. I asked shouldn’t they be the ones to call and she gave some confused explanation about it being cheaper for me if I called. So I did. I explained to the operator why I was calling and she huffily replied that it was the human poison control number and she would connect me with the animal poison control number which she did. An automated voice answered and immediately asked me for my credit card number. I hung up and went out to the front desk and yelled at everyone anywhere near it who looked like they worked there. The receptionist very calmly told me she would handle it. And I wasn’t even embarrassed that I yelled. It was justifiable.

      Hi Caryn,
That was a horrible exchange at the vet’s. That they passed you off with a sticky would have had me screaming as well. Nice opening: give me your credit card number.

I did not find the bottle of pills. Nala chewed on one before this, but she couldn’t get the top off. I hope it is the same with this bottle. I think I’d have to go through the tall grass in the backyard to find the bottle. Nala seems fine as does Henry. I just gave them each a bone. Henry held out for the marrow bone. Nala eats any bones.

With Henry especially, I hate the vet tech taking him in the office without me. He is skittish with and fearful of people he doesn’t know so I worry he’ll slip his collar. I warn them every time. Henry follows me everywhere so to be without me in the office of all places has to be traumatic. I sit in the car and worry the whole time.

My regular vet has you in the exam room with your animal except when they have to be put down. I had to insist that I would be remaining in the room for that procedure because that’s how I have to handle it.
I understand why the emergency vet does not allow people back to the treatment area. It’s a referral hospital and there are really sick animals back there. However, sending a an aide to ask me questions and bring back my answers leaves too much room for miscommunication. The last time I was there the doctor did all the asking before taking my dog back for whatever treatment.

I don’t know if people can go inside with their pets yet. I need to take Nala to met a vet and drop off her papers. They’ll let me know when Henry is due for something.

Like you, I get the emergency hospital’s taking the pet back but waiting there is just so hard. It has happened with Maggie, Gracie and Fern. I was worried enough before they took my animal.
