“Saturday is here; give it a warm welcome by allowing yourself a lovely day of rest.”

Yesterday’s rain stopped in the late afternoon. The sky cleared, the sun arrived and the wind disappeared. It was a whole new day. Today is humid, damp and cloudy. Not a leaf is moving in the still air. The early morning smelled of the salt and the ocean. The forecast says maybe rain. That is the weekly forecast as well, the possibility of rain every day for the next week. The high today will be 71˚ with 87% humidity.

Nala is into everything. Trash picking is the least of it. That I can handle. Last night she took a pillow, a pen, a crewel kit, paper bags and plates, cake decorations and a box of honey cornbread mix. I caught that last one before she got beyond chewing the box. Later, I went outside and found empty boxes, folded boxes from my recycle bin. Most things she sneaks outside so checking the yard is part of my daily chores.

I bought cereal the other day. My favorite Rice Krispies was in a gigantic box meant to feed a family of ten so I passed it by. They didn’t have Raisin Bran Crunch, my second favorite. I ended up buying a variety of small boxes. I had never tasted most of the cereal. The only exception was Sugar Pops, Annie Oakley’s favorite cereal. I tried the Fruit Loops. They were okay. Next was the Cocoa Puffs. Those I liked but I wasn’t destined to finish those Puffs. On the way to the couch, I tripped on a box on the floor. I didn’t fall but the full bowl of cereal went everywhere. Nala helped by eating what she could find. Henry never has gone on that side of the room so I felt bad for him. He ended up licking the bowl and eating the few Puffs left. I had to move some vinyl, a couple of baskets, some bags and a big piece of pottery so I could wipe up the milk and gather the Puffs.

When I was a kid, I could never imagine a Saturday staying at home unless a wild storm was raging, and my mother wouldn’t let me out no matter how much I begged. Now, I relish days at home, even Saturdays. As for today, I have no ambition. I am a sloth. I am happily a sloth.

Warm, humid and damp here with loads of rain and even some thunder but it was just the same when the thunder went away. It will however be sunny tomorrow and I do hope the flies have calmed down because today they were nasty! I even got bitten in the palm of my hand by a horse fly!

Alma is a shoe thief and also food thief 🙂 🙂 I caught her before she could reach my food but she left a big muddy paw print all over it 🙂 🙂

I think I’ll buy corn flakes the first thing I do when I know I can leave all the dogs at home for a while 🙂

    Have a great day!

      Christer,
It is a bit chilly despite the temperature. I closes the windows here in the den. It is still cloudy and humid. It rained for a little while.

I am so happy we have no flies. The paths in the woods do this tie of year. I remember getting bitten when I walked Shauna. I had to shoo them off of her.

Alma and Nala would strip the kitchen of edibles and, for Nala, whatever she could carry including boxes and cake decorations.

I brace myself when I come home after being out. I wonder what I’ll find. The cereal is safe in the oven.

    Hi Kat,

Today’s adventure took us to Airfield Falls Comservation park in Ft. Worth. It’s next to the entrance to the old Carswell Air Force Base, now renamed the Joint Reserve Base. We didn’t make it all the way to the falls because it was already getting hot and humid and it is about a half mile from the entrance. Carswell was a SAC (Strategic Air Command Base) where during the early days of the Cold War B36 bombers were built and flown.

The B36 was the only bomber designed, commisiond and decommissioned which never dropped a bomb in anger. It was designed during WWII with six pusher propeller piston engines and later they added four jet engines. It was a huge airplane. It could easily depart Ft. Worth and fly non stop to Russia, drop atomic bombs and return. This was before air to air refueling was developed. If you can find the movie, “Stratigic Air Commend”, starring Jimmy Stewart which was made in 1954 it’s an interesting look at the world in those days. It’s a little corny but fun. The walk to the falls will have to wait for a cooler fall day.

Today started out cloudy and humid. The temperature should top out at a balmy 92°. Tomorrow a cold front might bring more rain and cooler temperatures. I’m still awaiting the arrival of the real summer weather. 🙂

      Hi Bob,
I remember that movie. He was a ball player who was reactivated. I like him but I don’t like June Allyson who played his wife. I remember that Jimmy Stewart stayed in the U.S. Air Force Reserve after the war. He was a brigadier general who he retired.

I have seen pictures of those airplanes. Even in pictures they looked huge. I remember they flew 24/7.

It rained a bit today, and the air is chilly and humid even though it is 70˚. The breeze is from the north, always the chillest direction.

I agree with you about June Allyson. I couldn’t remember her name. It’s a classic movie and the first film I ever saw Harry Morgan, from M.A.S.H. fame, in the cast. They don’t make movies with stirring patriotism like that any longer, thank goodness.

I saw Harry Morgan in an old B&W detective movie. He was a bad guy.

I can’t think of a June Allyson movie I like. She was Glen Miller’s wife for one. She got her chance to do a sad character.
