Was this the only song she ever sang? I can’t remember anything else. I assume this was chosen to be sung at seventh inning stretch, after 9/11, because the words God, bless and America are in the song and it wasn’t written by a socialist unionist. 🙂
I think this is the one which has survived all these years. Mostly she sang songs like Shine on Harvest Moon, My Old Kentucky and many Christmas carols., but we can’t forget the old favorite, That’s Why Darkies Were Born.

She is not the only one. There are a few more singers of this song. Paul Robeson is a famous Black singer who sings this so sadly.
