I also love this version. Her voice says village far more than The Kinks’ version does. I first heard this version as the theme of the BBC show Jam and Jerusalem which was called Clatterford in this country. I loved this series from the opening song to the credits and was devastated when they stopped filming it.

I’ve always loved this version. It’s the perfect marriage of vocal and subject (lyrics). Better than that kinky original even!

im6 beat me to it, I have always enjoyed this version – not that the Kinks aint fab, but this is jolly good
