“This Christmas, may your heart kindle the kind of flame that lights candle after candle for those who stand alone out in the cold and the darkness.”

Today is lovely but cold. The air has a clarity that only winter cold seems to bring. The trees in the backyard stand stark against the deep blue sky. The thin pine branches look like skeletal fingers and hands grasping at nothing in the air. Nothing is moving. The air is finally still.

The birds have found the filled feeders. The chickadees were the first to arrive followed by the titmice, the usually order of visitors. I have plenty of seed.

My favorite day for Christmas to be on was always Sunday. That meant I could go to church and count it twice, once for Sunday and once for Christmas.

My almost $100.00 order is in for pick-up at Agway. The only non-animal item is a package of AAA batteries. Henry’s order includes bully sticks, his favorites, while the cats are getting Temptations.

The rush is over. My uke teacher sent a file of St. Patrick’s Day songs hoping we can learn a couple before the big day. I light my Christmas tree still and sit on the couch in the living room. The window lights make shadows on the walls. The room feels cozy and warm. Henry always joins me.

The dog’s outside water bowl has a layer of ice and a few pine needles are frozen on the top of it. The day will stay cold with a high of 38˚.

When I was a kid, on the days after Christmas, all my presents stayed around the tree. I’d sit on the floor and look at them one at time. I’d start reading one of the books. Sometimes we’d play a game. We always got a new game. Our favorite was Sorry. It is still my favorite.

When I was a kid, on the days after Christmas, all the presents stayed around the tree in our own little piles. I’d sit on the floor and look at my presents one at time. Sometimes I’d start reading one of my new books. Sometimes we’d play a game. We always got a new game. Our favorite was Sorry. It is still my favorite. I remember Parcheesi. That game, much like Monopoly, seemed to last forever. If you got stuck behind a blockade, you could do laundry, make dinner or watch TV before your next turn came. We didn’t play that game often.

Other than my pickup at Agway, I have no plans beyond taking a shower. I’ll probably have to nap.

    Hi Kat,

Today the sun is back out but the high temperature should get to 72° this afternoon. Not very winter like at all. Winter will have to wait until next month.

I always disliked the days between Christmas and New Years because they seemed like boring dog days. For the last 30 years I’ve had them off from work because we usually don’t have any students between the holidays. The excitement of the holiday season is winding down and it will soon be just another drab January and February. The only excitement in those months is the Super Bowl and Valentines Day. Just colder days without any excitement. Now I have to start thinking what to do for my spouse for Valentines Day. After 35 years of marriage, I know not to buy her flowers and no candy. 🙁

Of, course this year we have the excitement of a new President on the 20th of January and the drama left over from the old one. Will he willingly leave the White House? Will he show up at the inauguration? Will he kickoff his 2024 Presidential Campaign at noon on that day? Hopefully, he will just fade off of the television screen. Unfortunately, I don’t think that’s going to happen with this nut job.

In the end his accomplishments will boil down to three conservative Supreme Court Justices and hundreds of conservative federal judges. He spent more days watching TV and playing golf than any other President. His only major legislative accomplishment was the largest tax break for the wealthy one percenters in history. The rest of us got just a higher standard deduction making it more difficult to itemize deductions.

      Hi Bob,
I did a curbside pickup at Agway’s, and the trip was too short too warm the car enough. It was 38˚, the day’s high. The curbside meant I didn’t have to get dressed. Now, if I could only get some egg nog delivered, I would be a happy, happy woman!!

When I was a kid, this was the best vacation (other than summer) as it was the longest. I always found stuff to do. When I was an adult and teaching, I needed this vacation. If I did nothing after Christmas, that was fine.

Trump is so huffy being a loser. There he is golfing today without signing the relief bill, necessary because he didn’t do his job, ‘The virus will be gone by Easter.”

I think Mr. Huffy will leave the White House and attend the inauguration. He is all bluster. Look at how many times he said he’d respond to something internationally then never did. He blusters!

He has no accomplishments as fas as I am concerned. He is a small, petty man.

After creating a lot of fuss and publicity on the Sunday morning talk shows, he signed the Cvid relief package and the government won’t shutdown tomorrow night.

He blusters. The wait was on purpose. The hero now comes to the rescue!
