“Pumpkins are the only living organisms with triangle eyes.”

Oh what a beautiful morning! The sun is shining. It is warm, open the doors and windows warm. The breeze rustles the leaves, and I can hear them through the open window. Today is a stay at home day. I have a few things to do around the house, including the dreaded laundry.

I was hoping to get an appointment at the vets for Henry. The sockets around his eyes have been red. At his yearly appointment a few weeks back, I asked the vet, and she said that it is harmless, which it has been until yesterday. Now, both sockets look wonky, one looking scratched though I haven’t caught him at it. The vets said I could bring him today as an emergency, only $150.00 extra. I made an appointment for Monday but will take him to the emergency vet if I have to today or tomorrow. The sockets look better than they did last night.

I love the color in the basket on my front steps. The pumpkin is perfect with and a long stem and no flaws. It is surrounded by gourds in yellow, green and orange. I also put my harvest flag in the holder on the tree, and I put the small flag beside the steps.

When I was a kid, I loved to carve pumpkins. It was such fun to stick my hand into the pumpkin’s head and pull out the seeds and the slimy orange guts. My mother was ever vigilant to make sure we didn’t throw the guts at each other. That was a major disappointment. When we were done, our pumpkins pretty much looked alike with the triangular eyes and noses. I remember trying to cut out the mouth carefully to leave teeth. I wasn’t very good at that. Either the poor pumpkin had one tooth or none. I can only hope my skills have improved with age as I’m going too carve a pumpkin for myself this Halloween. I’ll hit Agway and Hart Farms tomorrow for a couple of pumpkins and some fall flowers. The only caveat is I have to restrain myself or I’ll have a yard filled pumpkins and flowers. I am a sucker for fall.

Boring day, boring weather, no pumpkins.

Today is World Dog Day! I think Henry deserves an extra hug 🙂

      Birgit,
Henry gets lots of love, and I have his favorite cookies, all frosted and in the shapes of pumpkins, witches and one skeleton. Like any kid, Henry licks off the frosting first. He has had several of those today!

    Hi Kat,

Pumpkin is not my favorite thing. The only time I’ve tasted it was in pies where it has the consistency of baby food and all I can taste is cinnamon and nutmeg. Give me a good Apple or Blueberry pie anyday.

We only carved pumpkins once when I was a kid and I remembered what a mess it was and some bought our kids the plastic version to carry around and collect candy. They only cared about the candy 🙂

Allergies are at their worst this time of year and I don’t know which pollin is causing all the problems. Maybe he’s allergic to something or get is nose into something that his system rested with irritation that he’s been scratching.

Yet another beautiful day with sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid 80s.

      Hi Bob,
I’m not a fan of pumpkin pie. I like sweet potato pie better. Blueberry is my favorite fruit pie.

We always carved pumpkins. It was really fun and a highpoint of the festivities. My mother covered the kitchen table in plastic. When we were done, she rolled it up and threw it away. I loved seeing our pumpkins lit up on the steps. I haven’t done one in a while. It’s time.

      I don’t know what’s around here now. I really don’t think anything.

We got to 71˚ today, a glorious day.

    Hi Kat,
I only just woke up so my brain doesn’t work this early. It’s a cool grey day, and I don’t know what the air quality is yet. I think we used to carve a pumpkin as a child. I also remember that some seeds fell in the dirt and a pumpkin grew… I love pumpkin muffins and pie. Although, when my friend’s mother took the stuff out of the pumpkin, and made pie with it, it tasted quite different.
    Happy dog’s day to Henri.
    Take care,
Sleepy Lori and the sleepy gang.

      Hi Lori,
Wow, I plant pumpkins and they don’t grow, and you just drop seeds. I like pumpkin donuts, and they are only around this time of year.

Making a pie from a pumpkin doesn’t taste as good as from a can of real pumpkin. Besides, it is so much easier to open a can.

      Henry thanks you!!

Grey and dull over here but for once no rain.

I’ve carved two pumpkins in my life and it was a mess 🙂 🙂 🙂 It is tricky to do the teeth to be honest 🙂 🙂

I hope Henry gets better! Can it be some kind of allergy?

    Christer.

      Hi Christer,
I haven’t carved a pumpkin in a long time so It’s time. My sister uses a stencil, and her pumpkins look spectacular.

If it were the eye, I’d think allergy, but it is the area around his eye. It look puffy and sort of raw.
