“Goats are a special case. Mad as hatters, all of them.”
The air is much less humid, and it’s cooler. 77˚ is the current temperature, and tonight could even get as low as 68˚. Today is an open the windows and doors day.
Around three this morning I got up to go to the bathroom. I turned on the light. I could see Jack and Gwen lying in the hall, in the path of the air-conditioner. That reminded me of night travel in Ghana. When we were driving through towns and small villages, we could see goats sleeping in the middle of the road, on the white line. Despite the cars, they never moved for the road. That is sort of what the cats were doing.
Yesterday was my just hang around day. I lolled. Today I’m easing in to doing a bit of work. The outside feeders need filling, and the deck flowers need watering, but they’ll wait until later as I have to go out.
When I was a kid, we never had regular check ups anywhere. We went to the dentist if we had a toothache and to the doctor when something happened. I remember the dentist used gas so I didn’t mind going. I seldom went to the doctor. That was just the way it was back then. I do remember getting my vaccination before I went to school. My friends had theirs on their arms while mine was on my upper left leg. I remember when it got scabby. It looked gross. I also remember when I somehow knocked part of the scab off when I was playing, but it didn’t matter because by then I was safe from smallpox.
I will vote by mail. I got my primary ballot in the mail the other day. Voting is for me an act of reverence. It is the most important responsibility of every citizen even if you don’t like either candidate, the common excuse for not voting. Notice I used the word excuse.
Today you get short-changed as I need to finish and get to my appointment, but I figure getting out of the house may be my story for tomorrow.

Hi Kat,
My mother took us to the doctor and to the dentist regularly. When I was a little kid in NYC our pediatrician was Dr. Radwin. My father told me much later that Radwin liked to examine the infants while they were being held in their mother’s arms. That way he could ‘cop a feel’ in a professional manner. “Excuse me madam I mistook your boob for your child’s bottom”. 🙂 I remember our first dentist did his own lab work and had molds of the Disney characters that he would make the kids figures using the same plaster as he used to make teeth impressions. After each visit he would give one to take home. In those days doctors made house calls and anytime Dr. Radwin showed up we got a penicillin injection regardless if we needed it or not. My mother always insisted on a shot or she did’t think she got her money’s worth from the visit. 🙂 Sometimes, I think Radwin injected us with steril water and made a little extra profit.
It was so hot yesterday, that after dinner we skipped the pool and stayed inside. Today should be a repeat of yesterday with a possible high temperature above 102°F. Usually we have an average of 13 triple digit temperature days. Yesterday was number three for the year. Ah, that cool mid 90°s temperatures. Let’s go outside and do something, NOT except jump in the pool. 🙂

Hi Bob,
My mother came from a large family, and paying for check-ups wasn’t in the budget: the same with dentists so that’s what she knew. We, though, my sisters and I do all the regular checkups.
The dentist who made me hate dentists wash my father’s old dentist. he took me to that dentist because he was cheap. He also didn’t use novocaine. I was in horrible pain every time he touched my mouth. I left my fingerprints etched on the bottom of the chair arms.
Today has gotten cooler. I even turned off the AC and opened doors and windows. The sun is gone, but the day is still nice without all that humidity.

Municipal elections in September, I think I’ll vote early this year. I never waited long on election day but it might be different in corona times. Voting by mail is possible but the townhall is easy to reach by bike or tram.
I hope you still have a sufficiently working postal system in all states in November.
We got needed rain today, probably more rain within one hour today than all the rain we got during the last months.

Birgit,
We have the primary first to decide the final candidates from each party who will appear on the same ballot as the vote for president. I have voted by absentee ballot before when I was in Ghana. This is my first vote by mail.
Like you I hope the postal system is saved from Trump and his minions.
The whole state is now in drought.

Hi Kat,
I read that as “voting is an act of revenge”. 😀 I guess that’s how I feel about it nowadays. My primary ballot came on the 13th and it got dropped in the USPS box on the 13th. It will be interesting to see how (or if) it arrives at its destination. I’m considering voting in person in the general election so I’ll probably do early voting at the town hall.
My vaccine scab got pulled off, too. My cousin Steven was trying to pull me out of the way so he could get ahead of me for something. I assume I am safe from smallpox and whatever else it was supposed to prevent.
Today, the 15th, is beautifully cool and breezy even if it is foggy. I think we are actually in a low flying cloud because there is a very fine mist in the air.
Enjoy the day.

Hi Caryn,
That is exactly how I see voting in this election. “I will get you, my little pretty!” I have also sent in my primary ballot. Hope springs eternal so I’m expecting it to count.
Ghana had smallpox but I don’t know anyone who had it. Come to think of it, Ghana had everything.
No sun here but it is cool. I’m thrilled for that.
Have a great day!!
