“The air was already drunk with humidity when I stepped outside on that first morning.”
The heat and humidity are still around making life miserable. I gasped almost as soon as I opened the door when I went out to get the papers. To add to the misery I couldn’t find my papers at first. I even searched under the car. I cursed loudly a few times. Finally I found the papers hidden by greenery in the front garden.
The sky is cloudy, but it is hot at 81˚. A strong breeze is twisting small branches and blowing leaves left and right. There is a 51% chance of rain from Isaias. I’m hoping as we’ve had so little rain.
Henry won’t go out the dog door at night unless I turn on the outside light. It’s not really dark out there as little white lights are wrapped around the railing. He is always a bit wary.
I have a list of five errands and chores for today and tomorrow. The laundry tops my list. It always tops my lists.
When I was kid, my mother always had to iron our school and church clothes. As for me, I can’t remember when I last ironed, but I think it might have been 16 or more years ago, before I retired. My steam iron works well, as good as new, considering it was a house warming gift forty three years ago. My ironing board is also celebrating its forty third birthday. The other day my friend mentioned ironing her newly washed masks. I guess she wanted her entire ensemble unwrinkled.
The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the original, is a favorite movie of mine. Kevin McCarthy plays the main character, Dr. Miles Bennell. He finds out people are being replaced by pods, and he runs to get away despite being chased by the townspeople, the pod people. Reaching the highway he sees a truck filled with pods and starts running up to cars screaming, “They’re here already! You’re next! You’re next!”

Nice normal sunny summer weather here but the heat will be back this weekend. I’m glad to read that you won’t be fully hit by Isaias. I read about North and South Carolina but not about the direction it takes.
Last year I had to retire my often used electric hand mixer, it was from the 70’s and nicely orange-colored but I couldn’t use it for dough anymore. My new old one is a good one probably from the 90’s so it may work longer than a cheap new one. My irons are both last century and inherited. I need an iron about once a year so they will probably survive me.
I remember The Invasion of the Body Snatchers, it was funny.

Birgit,
We did get a phone warning from the town about the winds which have gotten much stronger since this morning. I went out to the deck and rolled down then tied my umbrellas. I moved a small table inside. The bird feeders are staying up. I just put them out and filled them. The lights have flickered twice. My TV turned off, but my internet is still going. It is taking a while for my computer to reboot.
Henry is staying close. He followed me to the deck but didn’t like the wind. He doesn’t go into the house by the dog door so he had to wait for me. Poor baby!
I’ve had a hand mixer for twenty plus years, and it still works quite well. It was new when I bought it. My iron will also outlive me. I only iron napkins and tablecloths if I’m having company. Ghana had charcoal irons, and I’m sorry I didn’t bring one back with me.
There was a remake of The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. It was good, but I love old science fiction more.

Hi Kat,
I have never ironed. My wife doesn’t iron and I’m not sure we even own a steam iron. The miracle of wash and wear has made ironing unnecessary.
Today it was clear and hot again. It’s August in Texas why would one expect anything else. 🙂

Hi Bob,
When I ironed, it was back in the day of wrinkled clothes. I’d set up on the den, iron and watch TV, but I can’t even remember the last time I ironed.
We got all of 5 minutes of rain but had tremendous wind.
