“It won’t be a chore, it will be a garden,’ Holena said.”

Today is another day of sun and heat. Alexa told me the high will be 84˚ and the low 73˚. The outside temperature is 83˚ right now, while my house is a chilly 70˚. The AC has been cranking since yesterday afternoon.

As pretty as today is, I’ll be staying close to home. I don’t need anything though I would like a few more perennials to fill open spots in the front garden. As for house chores, I’m going to water the deck plants and count myself accomplished.

Testing and long lines of cars and people waiting, tents, refrigerator trucks and hospitals at full capacity sound like the beginning of a science fiction movie, a very scary movie.

The Governor of the Commonwealth, Charley Baker, has announced new rules for entry into Massachusetts starting August 1st. Travelers from states where there is currently a high count of covid will be quarantined for two weeks unless they can show proof of negative results from COVID-19 tests taken no longer than 72 hours prior to their arrival in Massachusetts.

I watched the Red Sox last night. Their bats were hot. They beat the poor Orioles, even more hapless than the Sox, 13-2. During the game ambient crowd noise was played in the background. When there was a hit or a run scored, the crowd cheered. It sounded like a real game with thousands in the stands happy to welcome baseball home. It doesn’t get eerie until the cameras pan the stands and you see all the empty seats.

I know it is only the beginning of the politicking, but I’ve already had enough of television ads.

I’m dressed as much as I’m going to be. I’m defrosting dinner. My fridge is loaded, and I have bread. In my own hapless way, I’m ready for today.

    Hi Kat,

The movers are bringing our stuff into the new house. My next move is going to be to the cemetery. 🙂 It’s only in the low 90s but the humidity is very high. There’s a slight chance of rain later.

The governor of Texas, Greg Abbot, is keeping the economy going but recommending face masks. He’s also not keeping the schools closed but leaving it up to the local districts to determine when to open. This is the guy who ran a full ad campaign to attract businesses from high tax California. He’s full throttle for “bid-ness as usual” as long as there’s enough hospital beds.

I watched the Rangers christen their new indoor/sliding roof ball park with a win. The piped in crowd noise was interesting but the cutout of the fans was hooky. I think one of the cutouts resembled Nolan Ryan. 🙂

Sadly, the political season is upon us. I believe that the British have a very short campaign season while our political season begins immediately after the election. 😦 The barrage of TV ads has begun.

      Hi Bob,
My father used to say that when he died, put him in a box and roll him down the hill to the cemetery. He said he’d be dead so he wouldn’t need any dressing. Wood coffin on wheels was enough.

Massachusetts has a face mask law except when out eating and drinking, but when out, you have to maintain the 6 feet apart. The schools here have yet to unveil their plans for the coming year. School here don’t usually open until after Labor Day.

I watched a little of that game so I could see their new ball park. It’s great looking. I saw the cutouts. They were hooky.

At Fenway, if they had just used cameras where you couldn’t see the seats, in places like the infield or the middle below the Green Monster seats in left field, you could imagine it was real for a minute maybe, but you really knew it wasn’t. It was an empty ballpark. In a short time, I found the sounds intrusive.

I know about the TV barrage of political ads. Worse for me is some of the channels I watch have ads for Jeanne Shaheen from New Hampshire so I a doubly cursed.

Covid-19 numbers are rising again here, a mix of bad politics and silly behavior. We also have a 2 weeks self-quarantine rule or 48 hour test but it doesn’t work. Nobody checks, nobody cares. Summer holidays started about 4 weeks ago and now we might get test facilities at a few airports. Too little, too late. I’m still careful.
Soccer summer break now, I didn’t watch any ghost games. One TV station had artificial crowd noises and I heard that it was ridiculous. The reputation of commercial soccer is damaged here and it’s mostly self-inflicted.
Open air concert (with registration, distancing rules and masks) tomorrow when it doesn’t rain. So far the weather reports looks good.

      Birgit,
Given what is happening here, I’m afraid not to be careful. The northeast has a slow spread now but it was the hot spot for a while. Now, the hot spots are in the south and the west. Just about everybody I see is wearing a mask around here as it is the law. Getting caught without one could be cause for a fine.

If you were listening to the Red Sox on the radio, you’d pretty much hear a game with real fans or at least that’s what it would have sounded like. It was uncanny how well the sound was pitched (HaHa).

They are trying to get open air concerts down cape but it is getting to be the tail end of the summer.

      We dearly need rain.
