“I’ve come to the conclusion that the two most important things in life are good friends and a good bullpen.”
Despite the wind, today is another hot day, another humid day. The sun comes and goes. Rain, scattered showers, is predicted for tonight. Right now it is already 85˚. Tonight will be in the mid 60’s. I need to find my down jacket!
I’m sitting here chilling in the cool house for the third or fourth day. I only venture into the outside world to finish an errand or two. Yesterday I made it to the dump. It was busy. I next went to Ring’s Grocery. It was also busy. I bought bread, lemonade, hummus, a piece of chocolate cake, tabbouleh, a Milky Way and a couple of dog biscuits. I must have figured the hummus and tabbouleh negated the cake and candy bar.
Each day I’ve had insightful, witty, intelligent observations about my small world and the greater world outside the front door. I tell Henry about everything. He’s unimpressed unless I add the word treat.
I have given up watching the news channels today; instead, I am watching a movie called Six Underground.
Today is baseball’s opening day. My poor Red Sox look a bit hapless this year. They traded the best, Mookie, and their pitching staff lacks pitchers. I watched one game and parts of another the last couple of days. The Sox were playing the Blue Jays. They are worse off than the Sox. They don’t yet have a home field. Canada doesn’t want them back home after they’ve come from here.
I cut lumps off Jack yesterday. I used the recently sharpened scissors. They glided through the fur, and Jack didn’t care enough to move. A couple of weeks ago I cut the tips off Henry’s nails. I had Lee, half of my cleaning couple, hold each paw while I cut the nails. Henry didn’t mind.
I have nothing to do. I don’t even have a wash I can moan about. Today is house cleaning day. All I have to do is hold up my feet on request. I think I’ll rest up before hand.

Hi Kat,
What a strange sight to see baseball played in front of thousands of empty seats but for a few cutout cardboard fans with piped in artificial crowd noises. Last night I watched the Rangers play the Rockies in their new, beautiful, indoor stadium where it was a frosty 72 degrees. The sound of the bat hitting the ball in that empty stadium echoed throughout the place.
Another cool but humid 93°.

Hi Bob,
I’ve watched parts of two pre-season games. I loved it when the crowd cheered the Sox hits and great catches. The only people in the stands were the ground crew waiting in case they had to roll out the tarp. They did so the game was called in the 6th. The Sox lost 2-1.
It stayed hot today, in the 80’s. I did nothing all day. It was a wonderful day!

No rainouts at Globe Life Field. The new rules are weird. If a game goes into extra innings, each team will put a runner at second base. Also, a relief pitcher has to face three batters or until the end of the inning. Unfortunately, DH in the National League. 😦

Baseball games could be interminable in extra innings so as strange as the baserunner rule seems, it will speed up the game.
I like the DH. Everybody knows pitchers generally cannot hit so they are accepted as outs. With a DH, anything goes so it makes baseball a bit more exciting.
I like the relief pitcher rule. Changing pitchers after one batter is all part of the strategy, but it makes the game longer. Bring in a lefty to throw to a lefty then take the pitcher out. We wait while he strolls in from the bullpen then we wait some more while he takes a few pitches. It happens every game. We have the starting pitcher, the middle reliever and the closer who come and go. All of that makes for a slow game.

I understand that you stopped watching the news. We don’t get all your bad news here but enough to see that your country has moved another step forward towards fascism. It’s frightening.
I just don’t understand why the Democrats copied their last election mistake to nominate someone who stands for the old system, likely not to change anything. Sure, it’s good for the rich and those in power but it’s devastating for the country. Not to speak of partly unfair voting conditions, I worry that just not being Trump won’t be not enough to win this election. Dear Americans, please prove me wrong.
Enough of bad politics, enjoy the opening day!

Birgit,
He is not going to get away with this. The blowback because of his failure to deal with the virus is getting bigger and his lies are being countered. He had to start his daily covid briefings again to get his ratings higher.
People wanted to feel safe which is why, I think, they chose Biden, but I do wish he was more energetic though not as frenzied as Trump. He’ll chose a woman running mate. I hope it is Kamala Harris. Biden will not play to the monied people. He hasn’t in the past.
The voting situation in some states is a nightmare. Here, in Massachusetts, every registered voter got an application to send in for a mail in ballot, and I have already sent mine in for both the primary and the presidential election.
The noise of the crowd cheering and clapping was so strange in the empty stadiums.

I woke up seeing the sun shineing through the rooms upstairs in my vcottage and I’m afraid that was the only sunshine weä’ll see today, now the sky is evenly grey and the rain is pouring down again. Well at least I don’t have to water the pots 🙂 🙂
I’ve turned on the radiators here on the bottom floor, today’s highest is said to be 57,2F.
I had planned to go to a store today to buy an extra long extention cord since I mowed over one a couple of weeks ago 🙂 🙂 and perhaps even another mower but this weather really don’t give me the energy to do anything really 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
I want some of your water! It hasn’t rained here in a long while. The thunderstorms which were predicted never arrived, but the day stayed cloudy anyway. It was cool enough until the mid-afternoon when it got steamy, hot and humid. It was uncomfortable. Now I’m cool, even cold!
I think doing nothing is an art, a talent. You never need a reason or an excuse to do nothing. Just do it, do nothing.
Some summers it has been quite cold earlier in the season., and I too turned on the heat.
My grass got mowed today. It looks great.
