I remember those old style mechanical voting machines. When you moved the large lever a curtain would sourround you for privacy and when you opened the curtain via the lever all your choices would go back to the zero position.

At my polling booth, there were curtains you pulled across, and you had to use a special pen to fill in the circles next to my candidates of choice.

Today, everything is done on a computer and then it prints out a paper ballot that goes into a locked ballot box.

This year our Republican Governor outlawed straight party voting. His logic is that it degrades from down ballet voting. The real reason is to slow down the voting process to cause longer lines at the polls. This would discourage some people from voting. Low voter turnout favors Republicans. The Supreme Court last week allowed the State of Texas to deny mail-in ballots.

I’m glad my state legislature voted for mail-in ballots. I think it will raise the number of people who vote.

How would your governor know if anyone voted the straight ticket? Small comfort but your state isn’t alone. Other states also outlaw the practice. I’m thinking the way people feel about Trump, the animosity, may drive them to the polls.

Although voting against a candidate won’t drive people to the polls, the Democrats have to give them something to vote for. That’s what happened in 2019.

Trump has encouraged such anger and animosity I think people are anxious to see him out the door.

        Oops. In 2016.
