“Music and showers refresh like no other.”

Last night I just couldn’t get to sleep. It was almost two when I went upstairs to bed. Around three, I decided my bedroom needed to be neatened so I got up and put stuff away in the eaves. Jack tried to get by me into the eaves. That was the last thing I wanted so I shut the door just before he got inside. Jack got huffy. I didn’t care.

In the paper today, I read a short article about the resumption of federal executions. In Indiana, three people are scheduled for execution. What caught my attention was a comment from the Bureau of Prisons, “Officials insist they will be able to conduct the executions safely and have been holding practice drills for months.”

I didn’t turn out my bedroom light until close to five. I almost decided to stay up but common sense sent me to bed. Henry and I woke up at ten. He has napped. I have not.

For my birthday one year, my parents said I could have a pajama party. That meant inviting my nearest and dearest friends. My parents and I did the planning together. We shopped for junk food, and my dad and I went to buy the drinks at a company whose name I forget. The drinks were carbonated and came in glass bottles in a wooden box. That’s all I can remember.

My friends and I had the most amazing time. The whole night was a din. We laughed, sang, munched on goodies, drank soda and generally made a lot of noise. My parents lasted a good long time, but my father decided around three that we needed our sleep. He was right. It didn’t take long for us to fall asleep.

We are in the middle of a string of beautiful days except every day is getting hotter. Today will be in the low 80’s, and my air conditioner is already cranking. I’m staying close to home today. I have no reason to go anywhere except the deck and the outside shower.

A year or so ago the door, my only way out of the shower, wouldn’t open with me stuck inside. Out of desperation, I frenetically banged the door, silly me. I called out, but there was no one around to hear me. I started playing around with the latch, and I was able to move it from the inside. I cheered when I got the door opened. Now, I always bring my phone when I take an outside shower.

    Hi Kat,
If you were still in Stoneham when you had your party, the drinks might have come from Castle Rock Springs which was on Main St in Saugus near the Wakefield line. I think you could have gotten to it easily from where you used to live. It was pretty much a straight run through the Greenwood section of Wakefield to Farm St/Main St.

I read an article about one victim’s family suing for a stay because Covid 19 made it dangerous for them to attend the execution. The world is bloody crazy these days.

It’s Triple H weather up here today. It has not reached 90ºF yet but it feels like it. We’re all sitting in front of the fan. I should just give up and put the AC unit in the window.

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
That is exactly where we went. I remember Springs was in the name of the place. We had to bring all the bottles back. That too I remember. I think I was partial to the orange.

That family is beyond me. How crazed is that? I could never watch that.

My house is cool. When Lee and Rosana came to clean, they were happy for the cool house. I admit I am too. I actually felt cold a little while back. Yup, time for that AC!!

      Have a wonderful day!

We used to go there all the time. I liked the birch beer and the ginger ale. Up until The Great Cellar Clean Out back in the ’00s there was still a wooden case of empty Castle Rock Springs bottles in the cellar. There were only 11 out of the dozen, though. I have no idea what happened to them. A lot of useful things disappeared during that event and nobody would admit to being the one who tossed any of them. 😀

I gave up and put the AC in the window. It’s working hard.

I remember what the building looked like so I figure we went there more than than once. Those wooden boxes and bottles are probably getting valuable. I have a wooden box and two glass bottles from Gnome drink company, a long ago Caper Cod company. The bottles are cool. They have a couple of gnomes on them.

When we were getting my mother’s house ready to sell, we found lots of stuff she had saved. My mother had warned us. Many times she said we’d be surprised by what she has saved. She was right.

    Hi Kat,

Today the sun shone with a high of only 95°. This weekend the temperatures are expected to top out over the century mark.

I remember that my grandparents had seltzer delivered to their home weekly in wooden cases. The bottles came in dark colors with a valve and handle at the top. The seltzer was plain and you made your own soda with flavored syrups. My favorite was an egg cream. An egg cream has no eggs and no cream. It’s basically chocolate milk with added seltzer. It works best when made with Foxe’s U Bet chocolate syrup, made in Brooklyn NY, mixed with about a third of a glass of milk. Then you add the seltzer to the top and you stir up the drink. It will make a beautiful three layer drink with the darker brown color of the syrup at the bottom, light brown color in the middle and frothy white foam at the top of the glass. It looks like a chocolate version of a glass of beer.

I think my grandparents drank the seltzer plain with their meal which helped them belch. It was a 19th century Eastern European version of Alka-Seltzer. 🙂

The number of Corona Virus cases is still high in Texas, especially in the big cities. Sadly, our Republican leaders have let us all down by opening up the economy too soon. You know you have elected a nutcase when the Lt. Governor, Dan Patrick, said he would give his life to save the economy for his children. 😦 Spoken like a true Tea Party nut job.

      Hi Bob,
Some places in Massachusetts got into the 90’s today. I think we did get into the low 80’s, but it was the humidity which made the day ugly. I turned on my AC, and the house is now pleasant. This weekend will be the hottest days we’ve had so far.

Nobody I knew had anything delivered except my aunt who had her dresses and and my uncle’s suits dry cleaned then the cleaners delivered the finished garb.

I never knew seltzer water was a delivery thing. The only place I knew with seltzer water was the drug store. I’d go have a Vanilla Coke, and the “soda jerk” who made it mixed seltzer with the coke syrup.

If you order a milkshake here in Massachusetts, you get milk, no ice cream. The joke is an out of state person complained there was no ice cream in his milkshake. The counter told him he should have ordered a frappe if he wanted ice cream.

We have been lucky. My state had the early cases but then Governor Baker set down the rules we were to follow. He did not choose to open early and had some pushback from that. The governor as right. By the way, he is a republican but you can guess his politics in this the bluest state.

OMG! The most endangered species, a moderate Republican. 🙂

The Republican Party knows that any candidate they put forth for governor must be a liberal or the candidate is doomed.
