“Life is a combination of magic and pasta.”

Today is cloudy and damp. It is already warm, 75˚. Rain is a possibility, but a remote possibility. My house is clean, and I didn’t do any cleaning. Lee and Roseana did. Lee checked, as he always does, to see if I had anything he needed to do. I forgot to have him switch the storm doors for the screen doors. I’ll do it, but I won’t bring the storms down the cellar. They are awkward and heavy. I don’t do stairs while carrying awkward anymore.

The Cape is not a hotbed of exotic restaurants. Falmouth used to have a Caribbean restaurant, and I made the forty five minute trip a few times for goat and plantain. That restaurant is gone now. Wellfleet had a wonderful Mexican restaurant, and, again, I was happy for the ride. That too is gone. Asian restaurants are plentiful. I can eat Thai, Chinese, Indian and Vietnamese. I tried that last one only once so I probably should try it again. Down Cape is a South African restaurant. I have been there several times. The food is different than West African food, but I’ve happily made do with beef bobotie.

Once a week I order delivery, except this week when I ordered twice, but one order was lunch so it doesn’t count. A couple of days ago I had a Panera delivery of a Cuban sandwich. It was both lunch and dinner, half for one and half for the other. I’ve had fish and chips, a fish sandwich, seafood pasta, pizza, subs, cheeseburgers, beef with mashed potatoes and asparagus, a piece of peanut pie and some chocolate chip cookies. I figure I am helping my local restaurants stay afloat, and I’m salving my angst.

I didn’t go out yesterday, just because. I am going out today as I need a change of scenery. I have two stops. One is the nursery, and the other is the grocery store. I need bread and I need chocolate.

today i had sugar-free chocolate fudge frosting in can. with spoon. yesterday, same. tomorrow? ditto . . . . what is this “pasta” thing you keep yakking about?? 🐈

You have gone over the edge. It being sugar free doesn’t negate the spoon and the can. The pasta was from an Italian restaurant. It was a perfect choice for the evening. I just needed a restaurant and a waiter to make it perfect.

We have a lot of different restaurants from many countries here as yet and I hope they survive, many people (including me) still don’t dare to eat indoors. A town with only big restaurant chains would be just boring. Reasonable towns elsewhere temporarily allow more outdoor areas but unfortunately not very often in this country.
Today I heard the first openair concert since this corona mess began and I was just happy to sit under the trees and listen to the music. Some kind of improvised jazz ambiance music, not bad but who cares, at least it was live music. I hope these concerts can continue, our covid-19 rates are rising again due to bad politics. With a little bit of luck I’ll see Billie Holiday music theater next month.

      Birgit,
Outside tables have been put all over the place. In Hyannis, one lane of the two lane Main Street was closed. Restaurants could then put tables in the closed lane. It also happens in parking lots. In-door dining just opened here. There isn’t a whole lot of enthusiasm.

I know of no outside concerts around here. The paper publishes an insert of events for the next week. It stopped that for a couple of months but is back again. There are only a few pages but it seems a normal thing finally.

    Hi Kat,

Our Republican Governor has finally realized that the virus doesn’t care about the economy and he has rolled back the opening rules. Restaurants are now allowed to have only 50% capacity instead of 75% which was from last week. He also has limited all outdoor activities to a maximum of 100 people. He’s also not overruling metropolitan counties requirements to wear masks even though those rules were instituted by Democratic leader. The number of cases in Texas have increased in the last couple of weeks. Of course, Trump hasn’t mentioned the virus except to make fun of it. I think the governors of Republican led states like Texas and Florida opened up too quickly in an attempt to revive the economy to make Trump look better for the Presidential campaign. I can’t think of anything that would make Trump look good.

We haven’t ordered in food or groceries since mid March. We have done the drive through line a few times. Going to restaurants since May first has been interesting. Every other table is closed and the waitstaff wear masks and either change gloves every time they go to the serving station or use had sanitizer.

We’ve tried to patronize family run places rather than the chains. Of course once and awhile an In and Out burger or a Popeye’s chicken sandwich is required. We’ve stayed away from Chinese restaurants because there are few that aren’t buffets. We probably won’t do a buffet before the end of the year.

Another partly cloudy and both warm and humid day. The high today only got to 90°.

      Hi Bob,
I saw how high the number of cases now are in Texas and across the Southwest to California. Maybe places opened too soon. We have been slow to open here, and our numbers keep going steadily down. Pence made an idiotic statement about not forcing people to wear masks. He cited the Constitution as the reason, “The freedom of speech, the right to peaceably assemble is enshrined in the Constitution of the United States, and we have an election coming up this fall…”

The only drive throughs around here are places like Burger King and Wendy’s. I chose good restaurants as rewards for maintaining my sanity. Long before covid, I had groceries delivered. I haven’t used PeaPod as the open times are a week or two away. I have used a variety of markets as each has its own character so to speak. I’ve had no problems with groceries or food.

The inside of restaurants were opened Monday. There were all sorts of requirements before they could open. Outside had far fewer restrictions. I’m not so sure about inside anything yet.

Less humid today but still hot.

      Rowen,
Food and thoughts of food prompted this.

I am glad for deliveries. I get to eat all sorts of food without leaving my house. Hmmm, what should I order today?
