“I’m getting old, that’s the thing! What’s in me now won’t be there anymore.”

What a beautiful day! It is pleasant and cool, 65˚, and there is no humidity. Yesterday I got so warm I turned on the air conditioner. Now I’m a bit chilly.

This is about the time in June when summer vacation started. On that last day, we didn’t have to wear uniforms, and it was only a half day. My nun gave out our report cards one kid at a time. We all immediately turned to the back of the card to make sure we were promoted. I never knew any kid who was held back.

A couple of summers I went to Girl Scout day camp. It was at the lodge, Camp Alyeska. I loved that camp. It had a big room with a giant fireplace. There were storage benches all around the room which held the cots, old wooden and canvas cots. Our troop leaders had their own room. There was also a kitchen and bathrooms. Outside the lodge, there were cleared spaces, each with a picnic table. Campers, by ages, were assigned a spot. I remember when I was in either the seventh or eight grade. We were the oldest campers. We were not great role models. I remember folding the flag at the end of camp one day and laughing, triggered by my folding buddy. We got reamed for that. My mother was a camp leader one year. I remember she had the tallest spot. Behind the lodge we’d hike on the trails among the tall pine trees. We’d collect leaves and wild flowers then use them in crafts. I don’t know how long my camp stood among the trees. I know when last I went by where the camp road used to be, I saw trucks and earth movers parked right there. I wish I remembered where the paths through the woods which led to the camp were. I’d like to look.

Sports on TV have taken a strange turn. ESPND is now showing the American Log Lift Record, an obvious audience grabber (tongue in cheek comment). After that I get to watch the ACL Cornhole Championship. Wow!

Sometimes I forget how old I am. Inside I am still quite young. It is only the outside which looks old. My hair is mostly gray. My smile lines have turned into wrinkles. I forget things, and sometimes the perfect word eludes me. I sigh a lot.

    Hi Kat,

Here in Texas the school year was over Memorial Day weekend. In those days the schools were not air conditioned and by late May it’s hot. The classrooms had large double hung windows that they opened and had huge fans at the back of the room to make us feel a little cooler.

I also went to day camp while I was in elementary school. The Jewish Community Center of Dallas day camp is still in operation and my daughter is a volunteer helper with the little kids.

I agree 100% that my age in my mind doesn’t always agree with what I see in the mirror. Sometimes my body reminds me of the chronological years when it fails to respond to my mind’s command or just hurts.

    Another hot Texas day. 🙂

      Hi Bob,
We have the perfect day with sun, a few clouds and cool temperatures. The house was chilly when I woke up, and even now, it is not all that warm. I went out on the deck, and it was warm in the sun.

I enjoyed day camp. We had one morning at the pool for swimming lessons and an overnight at the end of the camp session. It was a fun day. I remember my mother packed the best lunch.

It is when I forget things that remind me of how old I actually am. I really hate that part of growing old.

    Hi Kat,
I don’t just feel old, I am old. You are young at heart.
    Love,
    Lori and Cookie

      Lori,
I am older than you so buck up as we used to say. I think young at heart is a necessity once you’re over 70.

Mrs MDH and I watched Da5 Bloods on Netflix this evening. I didn’t fall asleep which tells you just how good this is. Wow

I was moaning today about my age due to a sense of detachment…pandemic syndrome, haven’t seen our new grand daughter or The Prince

I went back to thinking about Dylan’s new disc this Friday and Bobbie Gentry ad Lenny

      MDH,
After three months of being mostly home, I’ll watch anything, but I’m happy to know there is a good movie waiting for me. I almost watched it tonight, but something else caught my attention. It was a science fiction movie about something which came out of the ocean.

Thanks for the review. I’m looking forward to watching it after you report you didn’t fall asleep. 🙂

Warm morning over here. We took an early walk before the heat arrived. I have actually done the last of the laundry but that’s what I’ll be doing today 🙂 Well I will water some pots but that trake no to very little energy.

They have been so desperate for sports here that they showed a rerun of the footboall world cup from 1994 🙂 🙂 🙂 It is si sad that many people just have one interest and that loads of people actually watched it all 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
It is the same here but with baseball. I watched a bit of the World Series from the early 50’s. It was fun for a while to see how much baseball has changed, but it didn’t hold my interest for too long.

Chilly morning here: 65˚. It won’t be warm today. but the heat is coming. The other day was really warm. Now I’m wearing a sweatshirt. I watered my plants yesterday, my big activity for the day. I have nothing planned for today.

      Take care!
