“If you had an alien race that looked like insects, then they would build robots to look like themselves, not to look like people.”

Some time during the night it rained. The day is still dark, damp and cloudy. 64˚ will be the high. I need to go out to shop a bit, cat food mostly.

My freezer is filled. I’ll defrost something for dinner, maybe chicken. I’m thinking to add it to pasta. This, however, is only a possibility.

When I was a kid, my aunt, who was married to my Uncle Lorrie who owned a fish market, introduced me to pasta with clams. I liked pasta, and I liked clams so I gave the pasta a try. It was delicious though a bit odd tasting. I haven’t had spaghetti with clams since. I never see it on menus, and I seldom make spaghetti for myself let alone spaghetti with clams.

When I was a kid, my father introduced my sister and me to steamed clams. My mother thought they looked so gross she left the kitchen and wouldn’t watch. We’d take them from their shells, take off the neck skins, dip the clams first in the hot clam juice from the pot to get the rid of the grit then into the melted butter. Satisfying ums as you eat are voluntary, but they usually escape from my lips unbidden. Horror of horrors! OMG!! My mother would only eat fried clam strips. I pretended not to know her.

I love hot dogs. My sisters make fun of me as I could eat them for dinner night after night. I always use a top loading roll. Usually I toast the rolls, but sometimes I slather them with butter and brown them in the skillet with the hot dogs. I often boil the dogs. That’s how my mother cooked them when I was a kid. They are also great barbecued with a good bit of brown. Topping choices are many. There’s chopped onions, any kind of mustard, relish, piccalilli, chili and cheese. Notice I didn’t list ketchup. It doesn’t belong on a hot dog: on a hamburger yes, on a hot dog no.

Henry and Jack are napping upstairs. Henry is probably on my bed while Jack is on the bed in the cats’ room where Gwen hides out. They’ll be downstairs in a bit.

I’m going to get settled and watch Insectula. I haven’t ever heard of this movie. “Giant insects from outer space are drawn to Earth in search of blood.” That description alone caught me. It seems our world is the perfect environment for these ugly beasts. I do not know a single member of the cast. I think I’m about to watch the first victim. Swim! Swim!

    Hi Kat,

Many Italian restaurants offer linguini with either white or red clam sauce. The white has a lot of garlic in a wine and butter sauce. The red is more like marinara sauce. All right, linguini is similar to spaghetti. 🙂

I’m also a fan of good hotdogs. Especially ones that are all beef and have a nice bite to their casing. Nathan’s hot dogs from Coney Island are excellent as are Hebrew National. I used to love Hebrew National’s TV commercial, “We answer to a higher power”. 🙂

The only place I ever had a hot dog served on a top loading bun was at Fenway Park in 1993. That was a fabulous hot dog. I’ve never seen that type of bun anywhere else. Obviously, anything eaten during a baseball game at Fenway is fabulous because baseball at Fenway is fabulous. The Sabrett hotdogs you buy on the street in NYC are boiled or steamed in the cart with the umbrella, but I prefer them grilled with brown mustard and sauerkraut. Please hold the onions because they repeat on me. 😦

A Chicago hotdog is served on a poppy seed bun with mustard, onions, pickle spears, banana peppers, tomatoes and celery salt. In Chicago ketchup on a hotdog is sacrilegious. 🙂 Someday I plan on seeing a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. Then, I can say I’ve been to the two oldest baseball parks in baseball. Unfortunately, the next oldest ballpark in the major leagues is Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

Yet another warm clear day with highs in the low 90s.

      Hi Bob,
Linguini is just skinny spaghetti. Italian restaurants around here offer spaghetti or ziti on the side. I always choose the ziti. They are always served with red sauce or gravy as the Italians call it.

Hebrew Nationals are one of my choices for hot dogs too. I like dogs in casings, but I also like them natural. A lot of times I buy the deli hot dogs which I think might be Maple leaf.

The top loading rolls are the only ones people around here buy not just for hot dogs but also for lobster rolls. They are the only acceptable rolls though the other kind is also sold. I also love hot dogs at the ballpark, at Fenway. I like the brown mustard, but I’m not a sauerkraut fan.

I think ketchup on a dog anywhere is sacrilegious. The Chicago dog sounds tasty though I can’t imagine eating it without dropping some of the insides.

I’d also like to see a game at Wrigley. The two old ball parks are still glorious. The ownership of the Sox did a great job when they last renovated.

Not cold today, just not warm either.

I can’t believe that your local Italian restaurants don’t offer linguini with clam sauce either red or white. I would love to find those top loading rolls here. Several years ago there was a local seafood restaurant that offered lobster rolls and served it on top load rolls. I have no idea where he got them. He might have imported them because he charged a lot for a small sandwich.

I’ve never had a Chicago style hot dog so I don’t know how to keep all those things from falling out. My spouse had a couple of Eckert sausages stuffed with jalapeño and cheese on Standard hot dog buns. She ate them with pickle spears, raw onions, brown mustard and ketchup.

Nope, no choice as to sauce. I checked the menu of Alberto’s in Hyannis. The closest was Clams, Mussels & Calamari Fra Diavolo, which is served over linguini, but that is a main course.

Lobster rolls are always served on toasted top loaders. Everybody knows that!! There are probably top loaders in some grocery stores near you.

I haven’t had a Chicago dog either. My guess is the loose stuff go under the dog so they don’t fall out. I do like sausages. Usually I buy chicken sausages.

I checked a trailer of Insectula on Youtube 🙂 🙂 It didn’t look good at all 🙂 🙂

I do like clam on a pizza, preferable together with tuna and schrimps too. I have had clams with pasta but can honestly not say how long ago it was, I tink I might have been in my late teens.

Sunny with some clouds in teh sky here and just enough warm too, couldn’t bea much nicer spring day 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
I couldn’t watch the whole movie as it was just so awful. You were right not to watch.

I don’t like tuna except maybe for a fresh tuna steak. I haven’t ever had shrimp on pizza either. I have had shrimp and pasta, and it was delicious. It had feta cheese as ell.

Today matched yours for being a nice spring day.
