“Rice is great if you’re really hungry and want to eat two thousand of something.’
Today is another day of clouds. They match my disposition. I think I’ll go out later. Getting dressed will be a novelty.
Sometimes I lose track of the day of the week. When I wake up, I ask the Alexa in my bedroom the day and time. It is curiosity that makes me ask. It really doesn’t make much difference whatever day it is. My routine barely changes. This week I still have the dump and the laundry, the last one my bugaboo.
When I was a kid, I don’t remember being afraid of much. I found thunder and lightning exhilarating. I wandered the woods. Snakes were fun to watch slither across the grass. Bugs were prey caught with my jar. I remember seeing my first praying mantis. I didn’t know what it was. I thought it the most remarkable bug I had ever seen. It still shares first place with a centipede.
If I had to live on one food, I’d be hard pressed to choose that food, but there are a few possibilities. Rice is on the possibility list. The only drawback is I had to live on rice for a while when there was a late rainy season. I’m not so sure I want to do that again, but jollof rice may convince me. Chicken is on the list. I could eat off a chicken for quite a few meals ending in a pot of soup. Eggs are on the list. They can be cooked in so many ways. I love over-easy, but I’d miss my toast.
If I were stuck in the woods, I couldn’t forage. I’d have no idea what to look for beyond berries. I’d need a book with illustrations.
In Ghana, I sometimes had to flick the bugs off my food. I drank water with floaties. I sifted flour hoping to get most of the bugs out. I didn’t, but they got cooked so no harm. I still do that, flick the bugs off.
My current menu is heavy on foods like crackers and cheese. I have eaten all my frozen meals, mostly chicken pies (chicken again). I still have plenty of food, but I like stuff I don’t have to cook, hence the savory pies.
I haven’t eaten yet though it is after two. I’m thinking about ordering a pizza.

And where is the Bochum Belle ?
This Saturday the Bundesliga returns and our screens are illuminated with the first match between BVB (as supported by) and their rivals a short distance across the Ruhr valley in Schalke 04
The game is being played at Borussia Dortmund where normally some 80,000 would be going bonkers for this derby game, but it is a closed door affair.
You are out there somewhere Birgit and I look forward to a Saturday morning in your part of the world. I shall cheer appropriately for your team and imagine the big yellow wall

Hedley, it may sound odd but nearly nobody cares about soccer here in soccer land at the moment. Soccer without fans and fun isn’t soccer and it’s so obvious that it’s just about (TV-)money and populist politics. Players get a lot of tests just to keep the money machine going while nurses, care staff, pupils back in school and other more relevant people don’t. Some teams are in quarantine and can’t play, some teams don’t want to play but have to, it’s ridiculous and not fair at all. We just wait until real soccer is possible again. To be honest I didn’t even know that the Ruhr derby is this Saturday.
Have fun anyway! I will read about the scores afterwards in the news.

… and thanks for thinking of my little part of the world and cheering! 🙂

My Dear Hedley,
I notice she has already dropped by to reply.
They are toying with starting baseball in July. It will, of course, be an abbreviated season. Right now the players have to chime in with their response to the recommendations.
A frost warning and a frost advisory everywhere in the state except the cape. It will get to the low 30’s but here will be the high 30’s or low 40’s. Going out is no part of my plans.

Hi Kat,
Being furloughed is worste than I could imagine. Not only is every day the same, but there’s still not so many places to go that are open. Today we went to a barbecue restaurant for lunch. Their dinning room was still closed, as are most, but they had takeout. We ordered brisket sandwiches and ate them in the car as we have been doing all along. Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks and Shark Tank star, hired several secret shoppers to check out what was going on in several Dallas restaurants and retail establishments that have opened their stores or dining rooms. He discovered that 96% of them were non compliant with the rules set by the governor. I’m not anxious to dine in a restaurant for awhile.
I really need a haircut but who cares at this point. Yesterday, my daughter got her nails done for the first time since February. We had to make an appointment, and they took her temperature and made her wash her hands when she entered. She and the technician wore masks continuously and they had a plastic shield between them with a space below for her to put her fingers through to the technician’s side. This was more protection then when I went to the dentist to have a filling done last month. 🙂
When I was a little kid I was afraid of thunder and lightning but only at night. Snakes still bother me because around here there are still rattelers, water moccasins and coral snakes hiding in places around town. As the development continues to expand the DFW metroplex, the habitat of various wild animals is being destroyed and they will show up in the city searching for food and shelter.
I agree with you about surviving on rice. However, a little veggies thrown in and stir fried would be nice. Today is cloudy with an 80% chance of rain.

Hi Bob,
I think if you had been furloughed in a normal world you would find quite a bit to keep you busy. Everything would be open including restaurants.
Nothing is the same and may never be the same. I guess the safest spot is inside the house. I have no inclination to go out to eat. I am willing to wait until the numbers go down or to have delivery.
I also need a haircut, but I can wait. It has gotten long before. That whole nail procedure is just weird and tells me everyone is still afraid.
I see quite a few wild animals down here. Much of their habitat is gone but several cape towns have nature preserves so there are places still. Fox and coyote are common as are turkeys.
No rain today, mostly cloudy!

Pasta. Definitely pasta. Pasta with butter, salt and garlic. I’m hungry now.

I could do that!

Hi Kat,
I started to write this 2 hours ago.
And I decided to try to organize my bedroom ( hopeless ), make some dinner– deep dish Chicago pizza that I buy here and someone picks it up and delivers it. It has pineapple in it, and today I chopped up some mango and mixed it in.
Pasta with butter and garlic is also something I love, as well as cheesecake.
If I were stuck in the woods, I probably eat a poisonous mushroom.
It’s odd being on “lockdown”– Sometimes I think I am getting too used to it.
California has opened some things– but most people don’t trust it, and are going by the original orders.
Take Care,
Lori and the gang

Hi Lori,
We are still on lockdown, and there has been no easing of restrictions which is fine as most of us are still nervous about being out. The governor will reevaluate next Monday. Meanwhile, I’m bored but still glad to be safe.
I am not a cheesecake fan, too rich. I do like pasta with butter and garlic. Last night I had Chinese-leftovers for lunch!
I don’t know when I’ll go see a movie again except for the drive-in. Wellfleet still has one. But then again, I can have movies on the deck. It just has to get warm.
Take care,
Kat and the kids

I do believe that in the half hour I’ve spent this morning with your blog and music, that I must have gained at least 10 lbs!

MT C,
My freezer is filled with food, and I had to order Chinese last night, prompted by my blog. The food was delicious, and I am about to have some of it for lunch.
