If I could Talk to the Animals: Bobby Darin
When I was young, I read every Doctor Dolittle book. I imagined what my dog might say when we conversed. I’d chat with every animal I could. I really wished hard.

Actually, we talk to the animals all the time. They just can’t talk to us. When I was in High School I had a friend who came here from Holland. He and his parents spoke to their dog in Dutch. If they said in Dutch, “Do you wat to go outside” the dog understood and would start running around and jumping at the door. I would have been amazed if he had said, “Yah”.:-)

It’s true. Henry knows what I’m saying and reacts accordingly. He notifies me when he sees somebody by running into the hall and looking at me then running back to the door to keep watch. He mumbles a lot.

They do talk to us through body language. However, this only applies to domesticated pets. Wild animals are too busy finding food and not being eaten. I have no experience with domesticated barnyard animals to determine if they talk to us.

My chicken who lived in my courtyard never talked to me. My dogs always have. Boxers are renown for their conversational skills. Cats always seem to be whining.
