When I was a kid in the 1950s we would drive from Dallas to NYC every summer. Part of the trip in Missouri was along US 66. The part that we traveled was from Joplin to St. Louis. Outside of St. Louis there was a huge truck stop called “The Diamonds”. This was before the interstate highway system was built and much of the road was only one lane in each direction. This made passing trucks a truly exciting event.

I have always wished I could have lived when Route 66 was the main route and had so much to see. It would have been great fun.
I envy you your trip on Route 66!!

It was only a small part of “The Mother Road” and not the interesting parts either.
