No group in the second half of the 20th century changed the world of music more than the Beatles. Thanks

They had us all from the beginning, from their very first songs. We knew they were different.

    The BEATLES. Right on!
Other groups had 4 or 5 really good tunes, but the Beatles has many, many of them.

The problem with “Oldies” radio stations is that too many of them only go back to the 70’s (Creedence Clearwater, the Rolling Stones, Three Dog Night were all good in the 70’s), but the Beatles—–

some great songs I still remember, and that you can listen to on YOUTUBE are:
    1. “Any Time at All”
    2. “You’ve Really Got a Hold On Me”
    4. “Devil in Her Heart”
5.”Everybody’s Trying to Be My Baby”
    6. “Tell Me Why”
    7. Dizzy Miss Lizzy”
    8. I Feel Fine”
    9. Rock & Roll Music”
    10. “The Night Before”
    11. “All My Loving”
    12. “A Hard Days Night”
All of these were BEFORE Sgt. Peppers.
Keep the coffee coming, and keep the music alive. Rock on!

      Owl,
I easily remember the first Beatles’ release I Want to Hold Your Hand. I swear it was on the radio three or four times an hour. We all knew the words and also the words to the next hit, She Loves You. I remember The Beatles on Ed Sullivan.

You listed two more of my favorite groups: Credence and Three Dog Night. I am a lover of late 50’s into 70’s music.

        Hi Katry,
Yes! She Loves You was a big one. They even made a version of it sung in German!

I was a little kid when they came to America and played LIVE! at Shea Stadium (on an old Black-n-White TV) They had to put a cyclone fence by the stage. Girls were going wild screaming with Joy. A few even Fainted. I dont think there’ll ever be another group that wow’s the crowd so much as the Beatles did.

Gotta luv the Oldies. I luv to get on Youtube and just type-in the name of some tune, or the artist. Its amazing how much actually comes up and is availaable to listen to. As for 50s before ’56 and Elvis, harder for me to find. Who was “hot” then? Hmm, maybe Patti Page? Connie Francis? The PLANOTONES? Johnny Maestro & the Crests? the Platters? Brenda Lee? Its fun to search for good songs. Good music is good music, even if its old. As for Creedence Cleawater, I like: Who’ll Stop the Rain, Cotton Fields, and Long As I Can See the Light….for Three Dog Night, I still like “Never Been to Spain”, and “Old Fashioned Love Song”. Have a good week, and keep rockin’!

        Owl,
You have listed my groups and some of my favorite of their songs. We never went anywhere without a transistor radio at our ears or a radio blasting in the car, AM radio, of course.

I was in high school during the heyday of The Beatles. When in 1970, Paul McCartney told the press The Beatles were no more, I was in the Peace Corps and didn’t know for a while. I was shocked and even pained.

They’re looking around like, “It’s totally obvious we’re miming to the record.” Lennon misses a couple of times and smiles.

I noticed right away, but I kept watching. I could have looked for another video of this song, but I decided I liked this one.

      • Rowen's avatar Rowen Says:

Me too. The two layers are compelling. We’re watching them be the Beatles. They know it’s all a little silly and they bounce it right back.

I think they knew from the start to have a bit of fun. Maybe, though, when the fun started to disappear so did they.
