“Adventure is worthwhile in itself.”
Sun and blue sky greeted me when I woke up. The morning temperature is inching upward toward 60˚ with an afternoon high of 62˚. That sounds like outside weather to me.
When I was a kid, I loved spring. All the winter layers were packed down in the cellar, and I got to wear my light jacket even though my mother used to make me wear a sweater underneath it. I always groused. It did me no good. My mother always hit me with the either-or. I always chose the sweater under the jacket. My mother knew that. I was manipulated.
Lately I have been the beneficiary of small kindnesses. Two of them were at a Dunkin’ Donuts. The first time was in the afternoon at the drive up. Not a single donut I ordered was left. I told them to surprise me. They did. I was handed a bag with an associated half dozen. Next was at a Subway. I had ordered a sandwich on line and two chocolate chip cookies. When I went to pick up my sandwich, they had me wait. They told me they had been out of cookies and was finishing a batch so I could have mine. They gave a half dozen warm cookies. Not all of them made it home. The last kindness was yesterday. I was in a long line at the Dunkin’ drive-up. When it was my turn, the disembodied voice and I chatted a bit. I ordered my Boston cream donut, thanked him and moved forward. At the window, I paid and was told there was a gift from the disembodied voice. It was a second Boston cream. This was a great gift from the donut world as Boston creams disappear quickly.
Yesterday I took a ride. I went down cape. The sun had been shining long enough to burn off the humidity. The air was clear and smelled sweet. Houses and shops were outlined in the sunlight. I kept my window down so I could feel the breeze. Two of the bigger cranberry bogs are flooded. This keeps them safe from frost. I rode all the way down to Orleans on Route 28 and then all the way back on 6A. It was a delight.

Hi Kat,
We have been taking rides almost daily to beat the boredom of staying home. Yesterday was the first day since the stay at home order was repealed and today the traffic level is up to a typical Saturday. Most of the restaurants are still closed and only providing drive through or curbside pickup. Once they open up they will have to maintain social distancing and only 25% capacity.
Even though the movie theaters can open at 25% capacity, they are still all closed. I don’t think the malls will open up until Monday at the earliest. Although the businesses can open, the number of people admitted at one time will be controlled and everyone will still have to maintain social distancing with face masks required. We couldn’t find facemasks for sale so my spouse bought these cotton stretchy hair wraps that you can wear around your neck and pull up to cover your mouth and nose. They’re washable and more comfortable than a surgical face mask. At least now I won’t be wearing a bandana over my mouth and nose like a TV cowboy outlaw. 🙂 Now, we are all set to go out into this brave new world.
Today is another sunny day with highs in the upper 80s. Yesterday we almost hit 90 degrees. Most people don’t realize that Dallas is on the same latitude as the Sahara desert.

Hi Bob,
There has been no lifting of restrictions here. The number keeps rising. Now the state law is you have to wear a mask anywhere you are in public, and many places also require gloves. I have masks but no gloves so I ordered some. They’ll take a week. Until then, I don’t think I’ll need anything. If I do, I’ll have it delivered.
Most men I see wear black or blue masks. Some, with a little whimsey, wear cartoon characters. One of mine is black. The others are cloth patterns. You wouldn’t have open places to go to here so no need for a mask.
It got a bit chilly in the afternoon, but it stayed a nice day, mid 50’s, spring on cape cod.

Kat,
It sounds like such a delightful day.
We are still on Lockdown– so it’s just Cookie and me in my room. I am lucky when the sun is out since I can sit in the garden or take a small walk.
Yesterday I wasn’t feeling well, and it felt creepy to be in lockdown.
I slept all day until a college friend called and then slept till the next morning.
Take Care,
Lori and the gang.

Hi Lori,
With the warmer weather, a ride is a wonderful way to get back in touch with the world.
We are also still on lock down through the 15th of May, but I think it will be extended here.
I stay inside a lot or at least on my deck and don’t go out much unless I need something at the store so this quarantine doesn’t feel as strange as it might have.
Stay safe!
