“Our pets are our family.”
The storm yesterday was dramatic. The rain was torrential. I loved the thunder and lightning. Henry and Jack slept through it all.
Last night or rather in the wee hours, I really wanted ice cream. I had none so I went through the fridge and the cabinets looking for something. I found nothing. I went to bed without my ice cream.
Jack steals socks. Henry stands over me licking his chops when I have my morning coffee. Gwen meows from upstairs to get me up there. It works. I think these animals are taking advantage of me.
Yesterday the only things I did were water the plants and sweep the kitchen. I read until close to five. I just wasn’t tired. Today I’m going to pack those bins I bought and store them. I just need the covers which the bins didn’t have. I’ll be off to the hardware store when I finish here.
Yesterday my smoke detector started beeping, a slow, intermittent beep. I wasn’t sure if it was upstairs so I checked. It wasn’t. It was the one in the hall outside the den. I couldn’t reach it. I have a step stool which is a bit heavy so I opted for the old one I’ve had forever. It has two rungs. The first rung didn’t make me tall enough. I threw caution to the wind and slowly, while praying all the time, I climbed to the second or last rung. It scared me a little bit. I hung on to the wood with one hand and couldn’t reach the smoke detector with the other. The step stool was in the wrong spot. I almost stopped but it beeped. I moved the stool and did the same death defying feat and was able to remove the cover and the battery. The wires are hanging. I don’t care. It’s not beeping.

Nice weather yesterday and despite the rain notvtoo bad today either. Albin refuses to take walks in the rain and I’m not complaining about that 🙂 🙂
I hate it when the smoke alarm starts beeping, usually it happens in the middle of the night so I get really scared until IO realise it’s the battery that needs to be changed. Thankfully I can reach it just standing on the floor 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
Henry runs out, pees and runs back inside. He doesn’t really mind the rain. My boxers hated it. Gracie once held pee for a whole day.
I knew right away what it was, and I knew it had to be the battery because the beeps were so far apart.
Enjoy your evening.

Hi Kat,
The recommendation is to change the batteries in your smoke detectors when you move your clocks twice a year going from standard to daylight time and returning to standard time. Great idea for the makers of 9 volt batteries. 🙂 However, I don’t do it and just wait for the intermittent beeping. Just a case of extreme laziness.
I’ve stopped watching the news on TV because the COVID-19 coverage is getting very old and depressing. I do read the various news sites on my iPad and I pay less attention to the weather when leaving the house is supposedly verboten. I have no idea what the sportscasters have to say daily now that the virtual NFL draft is over and all other sports are on hold.
This morning I reread Steve Jobs 2005 commencement speech to the graduates of Stanford University. For some reason I thought about what he said about change, life and death. Here’s the link to the text:

Today’s weather will be similar to yesterday’s. Another day in social separation. 😦

Hi Bob,
I swear it wasn’t that long ago that I changed the battery or at least I don’t think it was that long ago. I knew about the recommendation so I had bought the batteries. I don’t keep 9V around the house. I buy when needed. The beeping wasn’t constant, but I hated it anyway.
I’m with you in being tired of the news. None of them have anything new or at least anything positive. I can look at only so many empty parking lots and streets. It is just so depressing.
The draft got an A. People and even sportscasters said it was the best NFL draft. They loved that it came from people’s house or Bill’s Vineyard hideaway, and that the hoopla is not missed. I watched a bit and loved when the football layers were sitting with their families waiting for the news.
I remember that speech but will reread as it has been a while. Thanks!
Today is like yesterday, rainy, and it will be like tomorrow.

Rain? Even torrential rain? I’m jealous! It’s the 27th and so far we’ve got about 5% of the average April rain. Maybe some rain drops tomorrow but I only believe it when I see it, the weather report already halved the amount of predicted rain. I think dancing in the rain would be appropriate.

birgit,
I’m sorry about no rain. We were in drought condition a few years back, and water was rationed as in don’t water lawns or fill pools. It has been raining all and off all day and is forecasted for tonight and tomorrow. You want rain. I want sun.

Kat,
It’s sunny and a lazy day. We received the news that we are in “lockdown” thru May.
When my smoke detector went off, of course it was evening. I wanted to kill it. Somehow a friend was here and managed to open it. I don’t know why they place them so high that one can’t reach them.
Looks like we are beginning to have sunny weather here.
Take Care,
Lori and Cookie

Lori,
Our governor moved the lockdown to May 18. He did that this morning saying there were still new cases.
We did get a bit of sun in the late afternoon when it did the least amount of good. It is really still cold right now.
I’d like real sun. to what showed up today.
