“I must have flowers, always and always.”
The morning is pretty. The sun is shining though there are clouds. It feels warm despite the wind.
When I was a kid, you didn’t have to be good for the Easter Bunny. He hopped in regardless. Our baskets always had plenty of chocolate, especially a giant rabbit, and some gifts. I remember getting books, panoramic eggs, the wooden paddle with the red ball, jacks and a game or a puzzle. Even when I was in Ghana, my mother sent an Easter basket. Some of the chocolate had melted, but I ate it anyway. The wooden paddle was the big hit that Easter. It was the after dinner entertainment for weeks until the elastic broke.
My sisters always wore frufru dresses every Easter. They wore petticoats underneath and swirled a lot. Black patent leather shoes, hats and short gloves completed their outfits. I, on the other hand, preferred a more casual look, one I could wear anytime. Mostly I got a new skirt and blouse and a blazer. My shoes were never patent leather.
We went to the early mass Easter morning. My father was the usher so he drove us, my brother and me. The altar always had Easter lilies across the front. Everyone was dressed in spring colors.
Hyacinths in purples and deep reds have bloomed. A small yellow snowflake has bloomed near the house. It is the only bloom in that small garden. After winter’s drab, the colors are so bright and so welcomed.
My groceries are coming in a bit. I ordered them this morning. I tried all of last night, but I couldn’t get a time. They were all taken. I just checked and saw many of my items are out of stock. That includes the mashed potatoes. Seriously, a run on mashed potatoes? We’re all going stir crazy.

Hi Kat,
Because Easter and Passover rarely coincide my parents provided us with Easter baskets. My parents realized that huge chocolate rabbits, laying chocolate eggs didn’t have any realationship to the resurrection story. Today, I will only bow down to only one false deity, the chocolate god. 🙂
Not going to work is screwing with my internal circadian rhythm because I’m sleeping late and I’m loosing recognition of which day of the week is each day. The sameness of social distancing is driving me crazy. Being stuck indoors or in the car with my family 24/7 is similar to the ancient Chinese water torture. Drip, drip, drip. We downsized our dwelling but my kids decided not to leave the nest. 🙂
The baseball owner’s are considering realigning the teams into the Cactus League and Grapefruit League. Each league would play their games in empty minor league ballparks. Let’s all cook up some hot dogs, popcorn and turn on our TV’s to watch baseball games with no crowds. 😦
Today is cloudy again with a chance of rain and highs in the upper 60s. The only difference is we don’t drive to Starbucks and watch Netflix in the car using their WiFi when it rains.

Hi Bob,
I agree that rabbits and chocolate have nothing to do with the resurrection. I guess Easter needed something special so baskets and new clothes. I also love chocolate.
I have been retired for nearly 16 years. I just take the day as it comes. Lately I have been up really late and sleeping late. It makes no difference as I haven’t a thing I need to do. I live alone so only me to drive myself crazy.
I read about the owners’ idea of playing baseball at the spring training and minor league sites with no fans. I would watch a few games just to see what it is like.
Nice weekend coming. Rain on Monday.

Who would buy mashed potatoes when you can stir potatoes? Anyway, pasta is back, toilet paper and yeast is still out. No problem yet.
Beautiful sunny spring weather here and the cherry tree is in full bloom.
I hope the Easter hare doesn’t practice distancing 😉

Birgit,
I didn’t want to buy potatoes I had to peel so the already mashed would have been perfect. I guess everyone else thought the same. I do have pasta, some noodles I think.
Still a bit chilly as it usually is in early April. The windy days are the worst.
I’m hoping the same thing!!
