Oooh! A 78rpm record! My first records were those darn things. I think a few survived, but it’s a miracle. They were so fragile. I have a 45 copy of this same Sam Cooke song. It’s one of the first “singles” I ever bought (okay, technically my parents bought it π ) First 45 single I bought was Lloyd Price’s “Stagger Lee.” (can’t believe I remember that).
Went grocery shopping today. Spent more on groceries than I EVER have in my entire life. But there was plenty on the shelves (except pasta and rice) and I figured I’d better stock up while I could. Who knows when I’ll venture out again? Hope everyone is well and coping with and enjoying their own company. Be well. Be safe. And if you get a chance, take a listen to the new Dylan song. (best to read the lyrics along while you listen to all 16 minutes of it). It’s chock full of memories from the past almost-60 years. It’s called “Murder Most Foul” and you can find it on YouTube. Google “lyrics, dylan, murder most foul” for the lyrics.
im6,
Hedley has e-mailed me a copy. It is decidedly long but it is filled with memories right from the start. I thought he sounded like Lennie toward the end. Hedley was a firm NO!
I shopped for a delivery from Shaw’s a local grocery chair. I got less than half of what I ordered: no toilet paper, paper towels, some meats and no deli salads. I didn’t even get my Peeps. Next I ordered from Ring, always expensive, but I love shopping at Rings. Each of my sisters gave me a hefty, and most welcomed, gift certificate. I gave Ring’s my list. They called me with questions about substitutes and told me they loved my list. I wrote it categorizing what I wanted like fruits/veggies, deli, bakery and so on. I got a couple of calls but mostly I got everything. Delivery was not cheap, but it was worth the price.
Between the two grocery stores, I spent more than I have ever spent in a single month even with a trip here and there to Ring’s. I also bought great dinners for myself.
Dylan’s new song release was even mentioned in our news.
I like his voice and singing but still struggle with this annoying instrumental background music.
Kat, I haven’t listened to Cooke yet.
I meant Dylan’s music, the ongoing piano and strings like pouring water from a faucet that never really changes or stops.

Birgit,
Did you mean the background singers and the piano? Did you not mean Sam Cooke?
This song was the B-Side to You Were Made for Me. It was made in 1958. I wonder if the timing had any influence.

I think that was what made me think of really, late, late Lennie.

Can’t go wrong with Sam. He can sing about something sad but make you feel good.

Sweet voice! Sam Cooke has the sweetest voice.
