When we moved to Dallas in 1953 we had the milkman deliver to our apartment every other day. In the summertime we would leave to back door unlocked so he could let himself in to put the milk in our refrigerator. Obviously, a simpler and safer time.
We also had milk delivered. He put it in a cold box on our steps. I still have the box. I remember the sound of the glass bottles hitting the side of the metal carrier.

When the morning temperature starts out at 80 or 85 degrees the aluminum milk box just won’t keep the milk cool.
