“We all eat, and it would be a sad waste of opportunity to eat badly.”

The dafs in the front garden are almost ready to bud. Finally there is some color in this drab world still dressed for winter. The clouds haven’t left. Rain is predicted. There is a bit of a breeze, but it is warm, 50˚. There was fog this morning.

I’m going nowhere. I have sent orders for delivery to Agway, animal provisions, and to Ring, my provisions. Each place has e-mailed an acknowledgement of its order but doesn’t know when it will be filled. Henry is down to two cans of dog food. He has plenty of treats so he’ll be a happy boy. I have ordered treats for me so I’ll be a happy girl: a slice of the bakery’s chocolate three layer cake, 3 Payday bars, baby back ribs, a Danish and some flowers to brighten the house. I just got a call from Ring double checking my order. I’ll have it this afternoon.

My cleaning couple didn’t come. Lee called to say they are self-quarantining themselves. They have no symptoms, but they have been in a few different houses so they don’t know. They didn’t want to come here because they didn’t want to take a chance infecting me if they have it. I think Lee said something about my age; he was courteous of course. My house is dusty, animal hair dusty. I may clean.

I was in Ghana during its first cholera epidemic in 1970. I was returning to Ghana from out of country and entered at Kotoka International Airport. The passport part was easy, not so health. The inspector said we couldn’t enter as we hadn’t had cholera shots. We didn’t know about the cholera. We begged to be allowed in because we lived in Ghana. We promised the inspector we’d go right to Peace Corps from the airport and get our shots. He let us in. We went right to the Peace Corps office, and we got our shots.

Yesterday went quickly. I changed my bed and threw the laundry down the cellar stairs. I read most of the afternoon and the evening though I did have TV on later to watch a movie. I counted it as a day well spent.

Sunny but windy and cold over here. It’s nasty in the wind but really nice when one can avoid the wind.

Still no problems getting what I want in the stores but it is very different in the bigger cities. I’ve seen photos from the bigger cities and they are now mostly totrally empty of people. The authorities have asked people not to go to their summer houses when the easter vacation comes, we have very few cases of corona here and they don’t want us to get it.

I did get the food fore Albin today, whu knows when I can get it the next time even though they say borders are open for all kinds of cargo. Schools are still open because where would the kids go if they closed? Many would go to their grandparents and most possibly spread corona to them, not a good thing.

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      HI Christer,
It got lighter for.a bit, but the clouds are back. My groceries were just delivered. I’m still waiting for the animal food spot to call.

The problem here is the limited number of big grocery stores like Stop and Shop. There is only one in Dennis. Ring is much more expensive than Stop and Shop as it has speciality food, but I shop there often. I like to treat myself.

Where the kids would go was recognized as a problem, but schools needed to be shut. The virus has quite the toe hold here. The
whole state of California is in lockdown, 40 million people.

Tax day has been moved to July from April, the only silver lining.

      Take care and stay well!

    Hi Kat,

You will be lucky to get everything you ordered from the grocery store. The other day we went to our local store and they had a very low supply of bread, fresh vegetables, no delicatessen and almost no meats. That’s along with no toilet paper and hand sanitizer. 😦 The manager said that the bread truck never arrived.

Luckily, Trader Joe’s had a good supply of their terrific private label wine, “Two Buck Chuck”. We bought a few bottles.

I don’t understand the hoarding of TP. The supply chains are doing fine. After all, the Covid-19 doesn’t give you diarrhea. 🙂

The approval ratings of Trump have been rising in the past week. I assume because he’s keeping his mouth shut. So far he’s blamed China, Obama, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders and any other Democrat he sees. Pence blames all the above plus all the abortion doctors, pornographers and anyone who he considers sinners that caused God to send us this virus. 😦 Former televangelist Jim Bakker, of Jim and Tammy Fae fame, is hawking a false treatment for Covid-19, Silver solution. The right wing nut cases are going strong while the economy and the stock market are in free fall. 😦

Rain, rain and more rain today with temperatures in the low 50s.

Just when you think the idiot at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was being Presidential, he went off script at the daily White House briefing. He called the State Department the “Deep State Department”. Again blaming all the federal employees who he and the other right wing nut jobs are convinced are doing things to undermine him. These hard working Federal employees are the experts who serve administrations both Democrat and Republican. Dr. Fauci covered his face when Trump uttered that nonsensical comment. 😦

He is the best deflector. When things get rough, he always finds a scapegoat.

In mentioning Pompeo: “You know what I’d like him to do, I’d like him to go back to The State Department, or as they call it, the deep state department,’ Trump continued, then leaned over to Pompeo with a smirk and added, ‘If you don’t mind.” Pompeo had nothing to say. He did defend the President. Surprise!!

      Hi Bob,
I actually got everything I ordered except my turnovers were apple instead of lemon and my bread Italian instead of Hawaiian. There was a limit on toilet paper, but it was fine for me. I forgot to order Peeps. I even bought some tulips.

Nope, I don’t get the toilet paper either. There are a lot of substitutes.

I did see the Jim Bakker ad. I think it was on a site debunking it. People will buy it.

A falling economy, either a recession or depression, is usually blamed, over time, on the president. He will get his comeuppance from the voters. Pence has no future.

      It never rained today!

What would these nut jobs like? Mexico elects a President for one six year term. When the new guy is inaugurated everyone in the Federal government is replaced with the friends of the new President. No deep state, but each new worker has six years to line their own pockets with bribes.

I had a student from Mexico City back in the 1970s who was learning to fly at a big flight school in Florida. He needed a Multiengine rating in a week because the Saudi students were renting the multi engine airplanes to build up flight time. When he came to Dallas I asked him why he needed this last rating in a week. He explained that there would be a new President on the following Wednesday and that his friend in the Mexican aviation authority would be out of a job. His friend would make converting his U.S. flight certificates to Mexican credentials easier, ie. cheap. He explained that the new aviation inspectors who would get the job along with the new President would have their hands out for bribes since they only had six years to cash get rich.

My dad had a friend from Acapulco Mexico. He once told me that we in the U.S. were crazy because we can re-elect a President for a second four year term. He explained that their system was better because they only elect a President for one six year term. When I asked why, he replied, “If our guy can’t become a billionaire in one six year term, then we don’t want him”. 🙂

I can’t say I’m surprised about the outward acknowledgement of bribes. That’s the way it goes in many countries. I had a policeman in Ghana stop the car and tell me my driver (this was my first time back)made an illegal turn. There wasn’t a sign. I said that. He ignored me. He said he’d the driver to jail. I said okay let’s all go to the police station right now. He chose to let us go.

I went shopping today, the streets were quite empty so it was fun to bike. (We don’t have bikeways.) Pasta and eggs were out, no problem, I won’t starve. I also enjoy the silence, less traffic and especially less flights. We live about 20 miles from an airport and planes aren’t really loud here but it’s a pleasant difference now.
It’s quite cold and we’ll get frost this weekend.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Birgit,
Usually with storms and such, bread and milk are the items always gone from the shelves. This time it was toilet paper and hand sanitizer.

My phone shopping was perfect. I got just about everything on my list.

The kids are noisy in the morning bouncing their basketball on the street. I’d prefer a quiet morning.

I love these four tracks and how different they are from each other. The Toni Basil is the slightest of them but she’s always a blast. She’s really like nobody else.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Rowen,
I seem to be straying far afield from my usual offerings. I’ve been having fun choosing a sort of theme then hunting songs. I hadn’t heard of Toni Basil but had to post that song.
