“Despite all I have seen and experienced, I still get the same simple thrill out of glimpsing a tiny patch of snow.”
The snow started around ten last night, and we have flurries right now, but only two or three inches fell. It wasn’t even over my shoes when I swept away the snow on the path and in front of the car. Skip came, and I had him plow out the car and mailbox and shovel the back steps for Henry, who is out now. He enjoys the snow.
When I first went outside to get the papers, I noticed large paw prints across the snow in the front yard. The space between the prints made me think the animal must have been big and moving fast. I wondered if it had been a coyote. I’ve seen them in this neighborhood but not for a while.
I watched a spawn of Satan try to get at the seeds in one of my feeders. It was relentless climbing up and down and then around the seed holder, but the no squirrel feeder did its magic, and the spawn left seedless.
The windows in my grammar school were huge. They went from the high ceilings halfway to the floor. The ones in the back which faced the school yard were more interesting than the ones on the side, but we couldn’t see out those windows. The nuns were smart so they configured the room so the windows were behind us. The side windows faced a small driveway between the school and some bushes and trees, but on days like today, the side windows grabbed our attention. We watched the snow fall.
The classroom was always quiet on snowy days. It was as if the snow muffled sounds. The nun taught, but we barely listened. Our attention was on the rhythm of the falling snow.
I did have a couple of errands for today, but there is no rush so I’ll postpone them until tomorrow. I am delighted by so many sloth days.

Hi Kat,
I absolutely detest snow and ice storms. They are only nice looking for a short amount of time until the snow turns into black ugly slush. At night when the temperature drops the water on the street re-freezes making both walking and driving dangerous. Luckily there is no snow or winter mix forecast for the Dallas Ft. Worh metroplex this weekend. Hopefully, as March progresses the warm and dryer weather will contine.
Thereβs a growing bedroom community north of Dallas called Frisco and they are being inundated by coyote sightings. As we continue to grow and develop more land we destroy their natural habitat and they forage for food in our neighborhoods. Stray small pets are favorite meal.
This morning was colder with a low of 30 degrees and drizzle. Itβs still cloudy but dry and get into the low 40s by sunset.

Hi Bob,
I don’t really mind snow. It stays pretty a log time here where I live. The traffic is only heavy on the main road. My yard looks lovely with the new snow. The best part is I don’t do the shoveling or I’d mind the snow. We have had very little snow this winter.
I have seen coyote walking down my road then into my back yard. The cape still has plenty of places for coyotes to roam. I’ve even seen deer crossing the road. Wild turkeys have made a comeback, and I’ve seen rafters of them numbering as high as 14. I know that Boston has had several coyote sightings.
Right now it is 27Λ.

Snow again? It looks like you get all the snow we don’t get anymore, just today I read that we’ve had the 8th winter in a row which was too warm. Cranes are 3 weeks early, toads are 4 weeks early, plants anyway. Currently the so-called 5th season is in full swing here, it’s carnival. Either you get drunk and participate or you stay away. I prefer the second option. Kids may come on Monday or Tuesday and ask for sweets.

Hi Birgit,
Neither snow storm amounted in much snow. With the first one I didn’t need to shovel while today I swept my walk. Mostly I wanted Skip to clear off Henry’s space. We have had a foot or a bit less of snow all winter, a small amount for us. My greenery is getting taller in the front garden. It is the only sign of hope so far.
Like you, I’d stay away!

No snow here, instead we’ve had sunshine on ad off today. They say we’ll get some on Tuesday though but I hope they are as wrong as they usually are π π
No coyotes here but I think the lynx is in the neighborhood. It’s the time of the year when the male one comes to visit the female one we have living in this area and it had sprayed some trees so it smelled nasty all over the place π
Our class room also had very high windows but they faced the school yard. Nothing much used to happen out there but sometimes someone with a dog passed through the school yard instead of walking around and that was always exciting π
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
We have had so little snow this winter I shouldn’t complain, and I don’t shovel or plow anyway. I just wait for Skip.
The coyotes just look like big dogs from a distance. If they get closer, you can see right away it isn’t a dog. I know people whose pets have been taken by the coyotes. It is just so sad.
I liked my old school. It celebrated 100 years a few years back. The building is brick with wonderful old wood and inside stairs which have a bit of a dip in the middle from years of kids walking on them. It is a neat old building.
Have a great evening!
