“Since Eve ate the apple, much depends on dinner.”
The day looks beautiful, sunny and clear, but the cold weather has settled in for a while. It is 29˚ now and the high will only be 31˚. The high?
I don’t have a junk drawer, but I have a tool drawer. Anything I need is there. It has both kinds of screwdrivers, a regular (I know it has a name, but I have no idea what it is) and a Phillips head, a couple of wrenches, two hammers, one small and one not so small, an awl, Gorilla tape and black duct tape. It has nails in different sizes, screws, thin wire and Christmas ornament and picture hooks. A couple of old frames, some wood pieces needing glue and a book bird fill out the rest of the drawer. Once I organized the drawer and put all the nails and screws in small jars, but the drawer still gets stuck anyway. I’m okay with that. I’m a pro at unsticking drawers except for the middle drawer in my desk. I have tried everything, but it doesn’t budge. It’s frustrating.
I wish I could build stuff. I once took a woodworking course and made some shelves. But whenever I used the huge electric saw, I envisioned losing fingers. I didn’t, but the fear was always there.
The first sort of exotic thing I ever cooked was chicken Kiev. I even made a table decoration, a styrofoam church with an onion dome. When I put my fork into the chicken, it spewed the garlic butter the way it was supposed to. It was a success. That got me got hooked on cooking and later baking. I always try to make my table decorations mirror the cuisine. For my Mexican dinner, I even made piñatas once using balloons. I love decorating the table. It is the awe factor even before we sit down to eat.
I have decreed today as another lazy day though I am going to change the bed. After that I’ll rest from my exertions.

Hi Kat,
I also started cooking making Chicken Kiev. I had just moved into my first apartment and was trying to impress a girl on a second date. I don’t remember her but I remember making the chicken. The difficult part was keeping the butter inside the rolled up, breaded and fried chicken while in the pan. Another dish reserved at the time for second dates was, “Pasta Carbinera”. I could always determine if the meal was a success if the woman spent the night. 🙂
Everyone has a kitchen drawer filled with a mixture of hand tools. I’m not very handy and still have to recite to myself, “Righty tighty, lefty loosey”. 🙂
Today was warm again with a high of 60 degrees with cloudy skies.

Hi Bob,
I was thrilled when the butter didn’t seep out of the chicken. My dinner guests were amazed at my culinary skills. Since then, I have cooked so may different dishes. I had a big meal every May for friends and made food from different countries or regions. Every 5 years I sent out ballots so my friends could pick their favorite dishes from the previous five years. I have a book filled with menus, pictures of the table and of my guests
My drawer is actually in the living room. I bought an old wooden kitchen table from an auction, and it has two what were silverware drawers. The other drawer has extension cords and care pamphlets for my appliances.
Cold here and for the next few days.

I’m not sure I’ve ever made anything exotic to be honest. Eggplant is something most Swedes look at with suspicion but I have made oven fried eggplant covered in cheese. Can’t say I think eggplant taste especially much though 🙂
I have however baked a millet bread once and it was quite ok but a bit dry and they did warn about that in the recipe. One had to make a porridge of the millet before using it though so it took forever 🙂 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
I’m not a big eggplant fan, but the best way to have it for me is Eggplant Parmesan. It is delicious. I like all sorts of foods because of all my traveling. I’ve eaten the strangest foods.
They use millet in Northern Ghana and make porridge with it. The also use it in a dish called t-zed. I am not a fan of millet.
Have a great evening!

its been 48 hours of chaos in the football centric world of MDH. My lifelong friend Dan in England and I pulled 4 tickets for the England semi Final against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League and 4 more for the Final. The concept is good but Detroit to Porto on a decent flight for a decent price – not so easy. Additionally while my London based chum was pondering price of a seat to Lisbon was going up and down by $700 in a 3 hour period.
So, it finally settled, Detroit to Lisbon on Delta and a train north to Porto. We will be on the road for a week and hoping that the English national Team make a Final for the first time since 1966
Next Tuesday, my slumping Tottenham Hotspur team take a 3 goal lead to Germany to play Dortmund and entertain the Bochum Belle. I know I will have to avoid Birgit if something goes badly wrong next week.

My Dear Hedley,
I loved the old part of Porto. Both it and Lisbon have beautiful old buildings. I was there quite a while back, and it was expensive even then, but I’m glad for the trip as Portugal is one of my favorite trips.
That would be the best surprise should the English team win and move on to the final. Have you looked that portion of the trip yet?
Yup, I’d avoid the Bochum Belle if you lose, but I expect she’ll be courteous about the loss.

Hedley,
I will watch/listen on Tuesday, just a few more goals 😉
Have a great week in Portugal in summer!
