“It is a beautiful and delightful sight to behold the body of the Moon.”
It’s cold, no surprise here. The sun is bright and sharp. It seems to highlight the stark branches of the pine trees in the backyard. The blue sky is the deepest of blues. The air is clear. It is a beauteous winter’s day.
I always like to wait and clump my errands so I have five stops today. They are close to each other so the route is easy: library to pharmacy to grocery store to Agway to lab.
Henry watches my coffee cup go from the table to my mouth then back to the table every time I take a sip. I always leave a little at the bottom of my second cup of coffee so he impatiently waits for his share. He especially likes if I have toast.
Last night the moon, the super moon, was amazing. The light was so bright tree shadows were cast on the hard packed snow in the yard. It will be clear again tonight so we get to see moonlight one more night. Tomorrow night we’ll have snow flurries then rain on Thursday. The high tonight will be 8˚.
This morning, Henry went gingerly down the back stairs to the yard. I had used the deicer on the deck and the stairs, but there was still icy snow on the bottom steps I couldn’t reach from the doorstep. Henry has gone out around five times so far. He is out so long I worry. Gracie was a runner, and I’m always afraid Henry has gotten out of the yard. He really doesn’t know the neighborhood. Luckily he is chipped and has a tag with my phone and address on it. The only issue is Henry won’t let anyone near him. He’s tired after his romps and is now having his morning nap.
We had game night on Sunday, and I had to wear the proverbial L for loser. I wore it well.
Sometimes I have a hankering for certain food. Right now it’s Thai food. I haven’t had it in a while, and I’m picturing coconut shrimp, mango curry, papaya salad and Pad Thai, a couple of meals worth. Maybe I need to add one more errand. Actually I just did. I am good to myself!!

It’s past midnight now and I can see the moon above.
We’re back to winter temperatures for now but at least it doesn’t rain. Spring will come, a large flock of cranes was seen in our region, they are about 3 weeks early. I wonder whether we’ll get another crazy summer.

Birgit,
We have deep winter weather, single digits tonight. Snow tomorrow followed by rain on Thursday. We haven’t had much snow this year, but the temperatures have really cold too many days in a row.
I don’t want a crazy summer after the crazy winter we have had.

Hi Kat,
Today was cold and rainy. The high and low temperature were in the upper thirties with low ceilings, rain and mist. The rain finally stopped before I left work and the streets were still wet.
I missed the super moon last night because of the clouds and lack of interest. 😦
Having a hankering for a particular kind of food happens to me frequently. I’m not fond of Thai food because I don’t like curry, cilantro or very spicy hot peppers. I got a hankering for a pastrami Rubin on toasted rye from our neighborhood kosher style deli. The place was owned by a Jewish guy for many years who sold it to a Vietnamese refugee woman. She worked in a bagel bakery for a few years before buying the delicatessen. She makes fabulous bagels. Her entire family works there and she has kept the menu the same and now has opened three other locations. Yet another immigrant success story.

Hi Bob,
Today was only 30˚, but it felt warm as there was no wind. My trusty sweatshirt was all I wore. Weather is coming. We’ll have snow then ice then rain. That starts tomorrow night into Thursday. We’ll only get an inch or even less snow.
The super moon is also tonight. I’ll have to check it out when Henry goes out in a bit. Last night it was beautiful. I am always disappointed when clouds come in and I have to miss neat astral phenomenon like the August meteors showers, the Leonids.
I had coconut shrimp, Pad Thai, papaya salad and a spring roll, none of it curry and none of it hot. No cilantro either. It was delicious.
I can’t remember the last time I had a Rubin, a sandwich I really like. I don’t even know where I can get one around here.
Immigrants + success: No, it can’t be!!
