In those days of yesteryear before 24 hour TV programming the test pattern was broadcasted. It was designed to allow you to adjust your TV set for best reception when programming began. We got our first TV in 1947 and I would watch the test pattern as a little kid during the day. At five in the evening in NYC I waited for the Howdy Doody show. Shortly daytime TV broadcasting started with the Today show in the morning with Dave Garraway. I also remember the soap operas, The Guiding Light and Love of Life. 🙂 All those memories evoked from the test pattern.

Bob,
I remember the test pattern which I also watched.
The first TV station in Boston started broadcasting in 1948. I don’t remember how old I was when we got our first TV, but it wouldn’t have been in 1947, nothing to watch.
I remember Howdy Doody and Kukla, Fran and Ollie. I never watched during the morning except on Saturday so I don’t remember weekday programs. I wasn’t a soap fan except for Dark Shadows.
