“A snake was never called by its name at night, because it would hear. It was called a string.”
We’ve had sun the last two days, but it has been so very cold. Yesterday I went to the dump and froze in the short time it took me to unload the car. From there I went to the bank and to Rings, one of my favorite stores, where I managed to spend almost the whole gift card my sister had given me for Christmas. I have a list of places to go today, but I’m going to wait until tomorrow.
I broke down and vacuumed yesterday. The dog hair had become too much, and in the living room there were still needles. Henry ran. He stayed upstairs until I was finished.
The gnats are still here. They dive bomb me I’m guessing in retaliation for all their deceased brethren. I have become adept at nabbing them in midair. I got two this morning.
When I was growing up, I wasn’t afraid of bugs or snakes. I was more fascinated than anything. I loved catching grasshoppers when they jumped out of the tall grass in the field below my house. I used my hands. Mostly I remember garter snakes. I’d watch them slither across the grass, and I’d follow them until they hid in the bushes. A praying mantis on the front steps held my attention for the longest time.
In Ghana, when I first arrived, I saw lizards scurrying across walkways in front of me. I was delighted. My first African snake was a boa which had eaten a chicken. I could see the bulge inside the snake. Good thing for me the snake was lethargic as it digested its dinner.
That wouldn’t be my last boa. My students threw stones at one in the bushes outside my classroom. Another boa feasted on my free range chickens. That one I didn’t see.

And so the serenity of this Michigan winter is about to come to an abrupt end with snow promised for tonight’s commute, Heavy stuff on Saturday and super duper heavy stuff on Tuesday. The snowblower is ready….bring it
We are moving very quickly towards the showdown between America’s favorites the Kansas City Chiefs and the odious Pats , their geriatric quarterback and cranky coach. I guess Viagra nation might hope for Brees and Brady, but the rest of America and the NFL wants to see the young guns Goff and Mahomes light it up. And frankly who doesn’t want to see Uncle Eric in a Super Bowl. ?KTCC has been along for the ride since his draft in 2013
Staring out of the window, the skies are leaden, its coming

My Dear Hedley,
We may get 1″ to 3″ but perhaps just all rain. I’m for all rain. It is the Saturday night to Sunday storm we have to watch.
I definitely cheered for Eric, but “them” days are over. I for one don’t want see Eric in the Super Bowl. It would seem a great idea for all men over 40 to take Viagra if it caused them to look like Brady, continue to play a game like Brady and attract Brazilian super models.
I hope it bypasses me.

The weather has finally decided what to do, so we had sunshine all day and nasty cold in the morning but just below 32 during the day. We’ll have sunshine all weekend they say and rather cold as well.
No annoying little gnats here yet. I had a few fruit flies for a while because I had some banana peel in the trash bag but the flies died out as soon as I had tossed the trash bag.
Spiders did freak me out when I was a kid, now I see them as the best fiends one can have since they eat flies 🙂 🙂 and I have never been afraid of snakes, I guess it helps that we only have one poisonous one and they rather flee than bite 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
I’ll take warmer days and colder nights. What I am tired of is grey skies which we have now, but it is in the low 40’s.
The gnats haven’t disappeared yet. I killed more of them today, but I see a few more flying around. I went to the dump so there is no trash or garage for them. I hate the little buggers.
I haven’t ever been afraid of spiders. In Ghana I saw centipedes for the first time. They are scary looking bugs. Luckily it didn’t get too close to me. I haven’t seen a snake in the longest time.
Have a great day!
