“Hope Smiles from the threshold of the year to come, Whispering ‘it will be happier’…”

Today is hazy. The sky is filled with white clouds. The sun is somewhere behind them. It is 40˚, just about the predicted high for the day. Yesterday I put away most of my Christmas presents. I also Swiffered the path Henry takes to the back door. It is always filled with tuffs of Henry hair. I count yesterday as industrious.

When I was a kid, I wanted to stay up until midnight so I could welcome the new year. Mostly I fell asleep before the ball fell. When I finally did make it to midnight, blowing horns and yelling, “Happy New Year!” just didn’t seem all that exciting.

This past year I lost Gracie and Maddie. I still miss those babies, but Henry is filling the void. He is a sweet, loving boy.

I don’t make resolutions. I’ve never kept any so I don’t figure to set myself up for failure so early in the new year. I don’t have any plans for this coming year. My life has settled down comfortably.

If you had asked me when I was twelve to picture myself as an adult, I think I would have come close to me now. Well-traveled would have been an easy one. I knew when I was eleven I’d travel the world. I have snapshots in my mind’s eye of wonders I have seen and amazing adventures I’ve had. I’m standing on the equator just outside Quito with a foot in each hemisphere. It is midnight sun time in Finnish Lapland and reindeer are being herded into a field. A camel is running away with me in the Sahara. I’m looking through a window an Inca looked through in Machu Picchu. I’m traveling through Russia in a train. I’m in a glider. I’m in a hot air balloon. I’m riding a mammy lorry. It’s taking me home to Bolga.

I am happy to welcome a new year. I am always hopeful it will be a better year than the old one. May it be the best year!

Happy New Year!

    Hi Kat,
When my kids were young they wanted to stay up to see the ball drop in Times Square. Of course here it occurred at 11 PM and they thought it was midnight. Soon they figured out the trick and couldn’t be fooled into going to sleep early 🙂

Today should be partly cloudy with a high in the low 60s. However, tonight a cold front approaches with a chance of a winter mix on Wednesday just in time to return to work.

I’m glad to see 2018 disappear into history. It was a horrible year both personally and politically. Hopefully, 2019 will be better. 🙂

I wish everyone on this blog a very happy, healthy, prosperous and peaceful new year.

      Bob,
I didn’t think about the time zones. Too bad the only celebration is in New York.

That was a perfect trick to play on kids though I’m wondering why. It would seem another hour is not a big deal.

I am always hopeful about the new year.

Have the best new year from start to finish.

      im6,
Thanks for the Charlie Weaver. My collection was empty without it.

I remember him on Hollywood Squares.

      Have a cigarette Charlie.

I’ve rarely stayed up until the new year has started, I’ve always been a early morning person so it has been hard to stay up that long 🙂 🙂 If I have stayed up all I’ve wanted was to go to bed as soon as the new year started 🙂 🙂

Very windy here today. I did hear loud bangs for quite some time earlier today and I guess some town decided to send them up early since it will be storm force in the gusts later tonight. Wouldn’t be much too see if they blew away far before the explosions in the sky 🙂 🙂 🙂

Have a good ending of this year!

    Christer.

      Christer,
I’m usually up late anyway so I’ll be around to welcome 2019. How much longer I’ll stay up I don’t know.

Today the syfy station has back to back Twilight Zone episodes. They do it every year for New Year’s. I check to see which episode is on so I don’t miss any favorites. I’ve seen them all so many times.

It was chilly but pleasant all day today. I stayed around and did very little. I watered a few plants and took a nap-that’s it for the day.

      Have a happy new year!!

    Hi Kat,
I have no plans for this evening and probably will fall asleep well before midnight. Tomorrow is a friend’s annual open house which is an all day affair full of food and conversation and people I haven’t seen since last NYD. It’s always a good time.

The weather here is brightly cloudy and around 42ºF which is quite nice for the last day of December. I should do some outside work but nah. It’s not that nice. 🙂

Rocky, Piki Dog, and I wish you and Henry a very Happy New Year.

      Hi Caryn,
Henry and I thank you and also wish you, Rocky and Piki Dog a wonderful and happy New Year!!

Years ago there were parties on New Year’s Eve but not any more. I guess hosts don’t want guests falling asleep on the couch at ten. I figure I’ll watch a movie then turn the channel in time to see the ball fall, such big plans!

I’m thinking I might order delivery. I’ll forego the traditional Chinese as I don’t want to go out. I’m thinking pizza. I’ll start a new tradition.

      Happy New Year!

I managed to rake the leaves that got covered by the November snow. We were supposed to go to Lisa’s tonight but they didn’t feel like doing the Three Stooges marathon, she didn’t prepare any food, and we’re expecting freezing rain and snow. Just as well. Ill be asleep by 10.
Kevin sprained his ankle on ice in his yard, do they’ll stay home too.
Maybe Rump will have to resign this year. That would make it a very happy new year. But then we would be stuck with the potted plant.

      Bill,
I did nothing today, but I’m just fine with that. The need to be busy left a long time back. The weather did say sort of warm for a winter’s day. I talked to Franciska last night, and she said her friend from Bolga says the harmattan is fierce this year. She said it is the same as it was when we lived there with the wind constant during the day. I’ll never forget that dust.

      Ten is late for you!!

I don’t ever watch the Three Stooges. I do watch The Twilight Zone marathon. Strange that Lisa made no food. You’re right about staying home away from the freezing rain and the ice.

      Poor Kevin!

You know his ego won’t allow for resigning. I think he chose Pence because Pence has little or nothing to say. His face always looks blank.

      Happy New Year!

      Birgit,
      Happy New Year!!

It is difficult to believe we all survived that horrible year. It has to get better.
