For centuries men have kept an appointment with Christmas. Christmas means fellowship, feasting, giving and receiving, a time of good cheer, home.

Gloomy, damp and dark are the adjectives for today. When I got the papers, it was even colder than I thought it would be. The sky is rain ready.

Today is play day. My two sisters and I are going to see It’s a Wonderful Life. My mother started this tradition. She’d treat us to a Christmas event then we’d go out to dinner. We had a table at the Pops one year and saw Death of a Salesman with Brian Dennehy another year. Most times we went to the local theater, and that’s where we’re going today. We’ll have dinner afterwards. It is such a Christmas treat to have my sister Moe here from Colorado.

Tradition is so tied up with Christmas. One year my sister’s whole family came for the holidays. My mother, my sister and I baked tremendous amounts of cookies and candy. We each made spritz cookies because my mother had made them every year when we were kids and we wanted to honor the tradition. One of the fun memories of these cookies is the year my mother added red and green food coloring to the dough to make the cookies festive. My father wouldn’t eat them. The color gave them a weird taste was his complaint. We laughed. My mother always left them plain after that.

My tree is decorated. The only things left on my to do list are shop at the grocery store, make cookies and wrap cape gifts. Last week at this time I was in a panic.

I have a Santa hat for Henry to wear for pictures. I also have some Christmas bandanas. What are the odds he’ll wear them long enough for a few shots?

The B doesn’t work on my keyboard. I couldn’t get into my computer because there are B’s in the password. I got into this program through guest user. I tried resetting my password and thought I did, but no luck. I’m still a guest. As for the missing b’s, I copy and paste.

Christmas is getting closer. It’s almost time for the countdown.

    Hi Kat,

I assume you are using a laptop computer. I assume it has Bluetooth then you could buy an inexpensive separate Bluetooth keyboard or get it repaired. Repairing electronics is still possible in our throw away society. Of course, if you have an iPad you can just dump the laptop completely. We have four iPads in our family, one for everyone and only occasionally do we use our 2010 iMac. I can AirPrint to my printer from the iPads if I have to print something on paper which happens less often since restaurants now accept coupons on an iPhone. If the iMac were to die, I have everything backed up on an external HD and have to decide to replace it. The next external HD will be one with WiFi capability which can connect wirelessly to the iPads or I could just back everything up to the cloud which would remove the problem of losing the data through fire or theft. 😦

For the last couple of years we have decided to buy tickets to a broadway musical followed by dinner out. It’s a much better present than buying each other more stuff that we have to store and eventually get rid of since we downsized our abode. I’m amazed that the storage business is such a growing industry. Storage facilities pop up everywhere like bank branches did before the financial crisis. I don’t understand paying rent to store all the junk offsite that won’t fit in the house or garage. 🙂 This year we replaced our aging iPads since Target has them marked down $80 this year. There isn’t a show we wanted to see this year over the holidays, but we are going in February instead of exchanging Valentine’s Day gifts. 🙂

Today should be partly cloudy with warmer temperatures in the mid sixties. The forecast for Christmas Day is dry with above freezing temperature. No white Christmas this year here. 🙂

Hi Bob, (I copied and pasted the b’s)

I actually have a keyboard I bought to go with my iPad. That’s a great idea. I find the iPod limited for my uses so I’ll stick wit my laptop. I may ave to visit the Apple store to straighten out the password problem.

I have stuff packed up on an external drive and in the Cloud. I learned that lesson after my first computer died.

I love seeing a play at Christmas. The theater is always festive and people seem happier. It was great today with my two sisters as we don’t get together too often with Moe living in Colorado.

I go through decorative phrases, but I don’t want to throw away too much stuff as I know I’ll probably use it all again.

It rained on and off my trip up to my sister’s, and it poured all the way home, heavy rain which slowed us all down.

Tradition of Christmas is highly specific to each family and replicated down through the years and hopefully in to another generation.

Mrs MDH has been delayed in going out this afternoon which in messing up my traditional wrapping afternoon and disposal of the many cardboard boxes that brought the gifts to my office. I have not decided if her Christmas gift sack should be out today or wait until Christmas Eve.

Have a wonderful time with your sisters

      My Dear Hedley,

I agree. Many of the traditions I started with my nephews and niece have now been passed to their kids. They remember how happy they were so they want to pass that along. There are piñatas, new pajamas and a new Christmas book. They are the third new pajama generation.

My sister had me put the gifts from her under the tree. They look great and inviting. I think putting them out now heightens the excitement.

We had the most wonderful day.

Much the same weather over here and it will continue much in this style all next week. Snow fall every now and again but it is those tiny flakes that never seem to build up much on the ground but can look pretty on the spruces.

We don’t have many traditions in my family, my mother managed to kill most of them since she feel most things are boring. Well I guess that having a potted spruce as christmas tree is my tradition now days 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
It poured all day long. Riding home was awful as it was raining so hard. It was slow moving traffic.

We all say we caught the Christmas bug from my mother. Our houses are all decorated, the outsides are lit up, we all are and we love finding neat presents.

      Have a wonderful day!

    Hi Kat,
I hate it when keys die. Now and then one or more of mine will refuse to function. I get the vacuum cleaner out and vacuum the keyboard. That usually works. Dirt (well crumbs actually) gets under the keys and prevents them from connecting. On my keyboard I’ve worn away the A, S, and E keys. The D is on its way out and the L is close behind. I tried writing the letters on withe a Sharpie but they didn’t last very long either.

Yesterday was the knitting group’s Christmas party. I baked a lot of pizzelle and managed to get them there without shattering any of them. There was knitting and gift exchanges, yarn swapping and story telling and laughter. Chicken pot pie for lunch and cake for dessert. The weather was relatively warm and sometimes even sunny. It was a good day all around.

Today is dreary. The weather widget on my phone has alerted me to impending brief rain showers and the pavement is wet but I haven’t felt, heard or seen any actual rain falling out of the sky. The dogs and I have been out for brief walks but mostly we’re chilling out on the couch.

Enjoy your Christmas treat and the time with your sister.

      Hi Caryn,
The letters aren’t faded. They just stop working. A while back it was a w and one other letter. They started working so I have hope for the H and the b.

That sounds like a fun get together. I’m glad your pizzelles made it intact. Mine always broke while I was making them. Nothing better than good friends, food and laughter.

I drove in and out of rain on my way up to Stoneham. On the way back I could barely see because of the torrent. It was a slow ride.

      We had a wonderful time!!

      Have a great day!

    Have fun tonight!

First snow (just a little bit) and last Chorus Christmas concert today here.

Who needs Bs. Oops. Call me irgit.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      B (cut and pasted) irgit,

It was a great time. The play was excellent and so was dinner. I hadn’t ever eaten before at the restaurant. It is where a pharmacy was when I was a kid. That worked out great as the theater used to be the movie theater.

Any hints why direct replies appear as normal comments since jetpack is needed for comments on wordpress/KTCC?

  8. Birgit's avatar Birgit Says:

Kat, apparently the comment form is provided by jetpack since mid-November. I had to unblock jetpack.wordpress.com to comment again.
It’s not a big problem that I can’t reply directly any more and I will take a closer look when I have more time, it just looks impolite.

    • katry's avatar katry Says:

      Brigit,
I found Jetpack but the directions for removing it didn’t work. I’ll try again when I’m less frustrated.

  9. Birgit's avatar Birgit Says:

Kat, don’t change anything, it works fine for everyone else so it’s just my crazy computer.
[Test 1, I took a different browser this time.]
