I prefer winter and Fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape — the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn’t show.
Today is raining, the rain promised by the weatherman. The sky is really dark. A breeze is blowing the upper branches, the ones filled with the dead leaves. It is all and all an ugly day.
Here in New England every season has its own wardrobe. Fall is a warm sweater. It’s shoes and socks and cozy clothes for the chilly nights. Winter is the layered season, a sweater and a warm shirt under a heavy jacket. It’s mittens and hats and fleece lined boots. Winter is a blanket on the bed. Spring is a bit of winter and a spark of summer. It’s a warm jacket on a chilly day or a lighter one on a sunny day. It’s an open window and fresh air. Summer is sandals and short sleeves. It’s cotton weather. It’s a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. Right now some days are both winter and fall. The daylight hours are warm at 50˚ while the dark nights are chilly at 35˚, but that will change later in the week. Thanksgiving may be the coldest on record.
Jigsaw puzzles are a favorite of mine. I started young with huge pieces in an eight piece puzzle and worked my way up to the larger puzzles. My favorite size is 500 pieces because the finished puzzle fits perfectly on my table. My mother used to have one in process on the dining room table, and everyone, on the way to the kitchen, always stopped to try and add a piece. I gave my mother a new puzzle every Christmas, and my sister continues the tradition. Last year it was snowmen. I enjoy doing the puzzle while watching TV. It’s a perfectly fine way to spend an evening.
With the change in season, the house becomes my refuge from the cold. I stay by myself more. I plan trips I may never take. It’s the planning I enjoy. I read, sometimes all day. Nothing is better than a book you just can’t put down. Some days I stay in flannel cozies and slippers. I nap on the couch under a warm, comfy afghan. I feel content with my lot. I’m thinking it can’t get much better than that.

Cold here now and this morning I found some snow on my car, can’t even pretend I liked it 🙂 🙂
It is a long time since a bought a puzzle but I lay them in my computer instead. Sometimes I use the ones the program has and sometimes I use one of my own photos. Puzzles wasn’t that popular in my home but they were in my best friends home. There was always one big on their table and anyone who found a piece that fit placed it there 🙂
I would have stayed indoors all day and been reading books if I didn’t work, well the occasional walk with the dogs of course but otherwise I wouldn’t go out much 🙂
Have a great day!

Christer,
Our day was such warmer than off cape. We had rain on and off and ended up with just misty ran in the late afternoon. It will get colder for the rest of the week.
I always stopped at the dining room table in my mother’s house to look for a piece of the puzzle. I was so excited when I found one. One of my cats used to knock pieces off the table. I caught her doing that and went hunting and found pieces under tables and in other rooms. At the end, we were still missing pieces.
I did do some shopping and was able to get a few Christmas presents.
Have a lovely evening!!

Fall here in North Texas is a mixed bag of cool nights and warm dsys when the sun shines. In the mornings if it’s not rainy I wear a light jacket and remove it by noon. Are two rainiest months are May and October. Most people don’t realize that we are on the same latitude as North Africa. 🙂
Today we picked up a few things for Thanksgiving. A half of a smoked Turkey, a ham, some sides and desert. Both an apple pie and a chocolate pecan pie. Thanksgiving day st our house is composed of the Macy’s parade followed by the National Dog show. The we settle in to watch the Cowboys play the Redskins.
Today started out in the 40s and now the sun has warmed us up to the mid 69s.

Bob,
I was in Morocco in January. I chuckled at how many layers of clothes the people wore in the morning. My light jacket was enough and then too much by afternoon. I think I chose the best time to be there.
I always watch the parade and the dog show. This year we are again going out for dinner. My friend always did Thanksgiving when her family came up from New Jersey but they don’t come anymore so we go out. I’m fine with that.
It was 50˚ when I went out and 45˚ when I got home.
