“Oh, comfortable cocoa!”
We got some snow yesterday. It was only a little, but any snow is dramatic. After the snow came the rain, pouring rain, and the wind. I could hear clumps of the wet snow falling on the deck and against the house, but Henry never moved so I knew the sound didn’t come from an intruder. This morning when I went to get the papers I noticed a bit of snow in my neighbor’s yard. It would never have survived the rain so more snow must have fallen after the rain. Today is warm, in the 50’s. I didn’t expect that.
When I was a kid, the fresh wet snow meant a snowball fight. We’d bundle up and go outside hoping to find our snowball armies. We’d all get together and choose sides then we’d build two walls facing each other, our protection from the snow missiles. Finally, we’d make the ammo. Snowballs were especially easy to make when the snow was as wet as last night’s. We’d wait for heads to appear over the wall and then let loose. I had a good arm and a good aim. I was blessed.
Today is a dark day. The sun showed up behind the clouds earlier this morning then disappeared for good. It will get colder as the day winds into night.
Yesterday I craved a pizza for dinner, but it got too later to order delivery so I fell back on my breakfast anytime meal. I had two eggs over easy, some bacon and two pieces of toast. It was delicious, but today I’m ordering pizza, thin crust with chorizo.
I could go out, but I’m thinking staying inside and being warm and cozy. I’m thinking a hot chocolate with a spoonful of Fluff on top. When I was a kid, it was a favorite treat. I remember waiting for the Fluff to melt a bit so it spread across the top of the cocoa. I also remember the Fluff mustache and the fun of licking it off. For days like today, it’s a good thing I always have Fluff on hand.

Hi Kat,
I drove home in the snowstorm last night. It was pretty with the big flakes coming down hard and fast. It was a little scary too. Almost got rear ended by giant truck that seemed not to understand that it wasn’t a sunny July day. But, after twice the time it normally takes, I made it home from Danvers in one piece. The dogs were glad to see me but not especially glad that I made them go outside to do their duty in the snow.
This morning all the lovely snow was dirty from the plows and soggy from the rain. It’s only just above freezing here so probably the soggy stuff will freeze tonight. I better put the trash out before the barrel seizes up in place.
I almost bought some Fluff when I went to the grocery store the other day. I wish I had. And cocoa, too. Oh, well. I’ll have to make do with Brigham’s Outta The Park Coffee ice cream. How tragic. 🙂
Enjoy the day.

Hi Caryn,
Our roads didn’t fill with snow. The white stuff just melted when it hit the road. Even my walkway was clear. The rain had started before I went to bed. I am not a lover of driving in the snow. I was with friends when I was in college, and we skidded while on a highway bridge and hit the fence which stopped us. I forgot to breathe. My friend, the driver, kept apologizing but she was going slowly. It was just too icy.
My yard had no snow. Strangely only the house behind me had any. It was under trees.
I think I could make do with coffee ice cream.
Have a great evening!

Yesterday I was on the phone with a colleague in New Jersey who left work early as it was beginning to snow. He said that every year the first snowfall requires everyone else to learn how to drive all over again how to drive in snow. 🙂
I hate to drive in snow especially ice. Here when we gat any snow or ice the entire place shuts down. I would rather suffer through 100 degrees plus weather than snow.
Everywhere has it’s issues. Southern California has fire storms and mud slides. Earth quakes are an added atraction. Hawaii has volcanos and earth quakes with hurricanes thrown in for fun. The gulf coast and Florida have hurricanes. I guess North Texas isn’t too bad. 🙂

Bob,
This time year many of the snowbirds are gone south so the roads are far safer. Also, older people tend to stay inside when it is snowing.
I hate the ice more as it can hide under the snow. Wet snow is dangerous, fluffy snow not so much. I’d rather be cold than hot.
We have hurricanes as well but not too many of late. We do have snow but crippling snow but usually once or maybe twice a winter. The cape tends to have fewer inches.
I like where I live.

My favorite snowfall is the one that melts before I have to drive my car. 🙂

Bob,
I used to hate the snow which was heavy but not heavy enough to call off school. I’d be out at 6 shoveling and clearing.

Hunting season started yesterday and it coincided with our third snow fall of the season, which coincided with one of my furnaces being out.
The overwhelming desire to go up north and shoot Bambi gave me a relatively easy drive home but it has all arrived too early
I awoke this morning to discover that someone (lets say im6) had broken in to my Amazon account. Apparently late last night this person called amazon and changed the password on the account. Unimpressively Amazon did it without sending a digital code to my cell phone or a confirming email. Having been the target of identity theft for over 3 years, I caught it immediately but it means my 3rd credit card reissue this month.
Tomorrow is out annual turkey giveaway day in Pontiac where we will deliver 1,500 turkey dinners to our neighbors. At a pre meeting this week, they pointed out that we have nearly 8 tons of turkeys being readied. The cars line up in two lines and move through the parking lot where the volunteers deliver a full meal every 8 seconds. It takes about 100 volunteers to do it and we always get bad weather – last year it was torrential rain

My Dear Hedley,
Wow, this is our first snow, and it really didn’t amount to much of anything. It is already gone between the rain and the warmish day. Last year my furnace died. I nearly froze to death.
Long ago my students used to take the first couple of days of hunting season off. Back then there were plenty of deer and far fewer houses. I accused them of killing Bambi’s mother.
Amazon must have had no excuse for their lack of security. I have been hacked only once for two charges in California. AmEx called right away as the charges looked suspicious. They nailed it.I was pleased.
I am amazed at the number of dinners and the poundage of the turkeys. 8 seconds is totally impressive. Your good works should get sun!!

Today is a cocoa day here too. Yesterday was sunny and nice despite the strong wind but today is grey and dull but windless, I prefer yesterday 🙂
We didn’t have especially many snowball fights, we were just too few kids in my age ion my neighborhood. Instead we went to the park next door, which is more like a big forest in the middle of the city and tried our sleds. I always though the best time was when we came home again to a cup of hot cocoa and a cheese sandwich 🙂
Have a great day!
Christer.

Christer,
Yesterday wasn’t the greatest day here either. It was colder than average.
My neighborhood was filled with kids. There were plenty of all ages so we each had neighborhood friends. Our street was a hill, perfect for sledding. We didn’t have to go anywhere. The cocoa was the best way to end the day!!
Have a great day!!
