“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.”
When I was still in bed, I heard the rain. It was a quiet rain but a constant rain. I fell back to sleep. When I woke up, the rain was pounding the roof. Poor Henry couldn’t wait. He ran outside during the worst of it. I gave him a bully stick as a reward when he came back inside. Henry has created a mystery. I found small pieces of chewed, decorative wood on the floor. I then walked through the dining room and the living room but couldn’t find any more chewed pieces, and I didn’t notice a spot where something should have stood. I need to keep hunting.
When I was a kid, our dog Duke ate canned dog food which was, in those days, mainly horse meat. I never gave it a second thought. It was just dog food to me. Fast forward to now. Henry eats food with no fillers. He eats healthier than I do. I can see the vegetables in each: the carrots, peas and potatoes. Gracie used to hate peas. She always managed to isolate them from the rest of her dinner. Henry eats everything. He does not have a discerning palate.
Today I have a few errands, necessary errands. I need cream for my coffee, and I need new library books. I’ve read three of the four I got last week. I’ve also read one I bought myself. My bedtime has shifted to the early hours, the wee hours, all the more time to read.
I think it was in college when I first started every day with coffee. My friends and I sat together in the canteen drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. We used to have a contest to see who could finish the crossword puzzle the fastest. If one of us had a class, another of us who had come in during the contest would take over the puzzle. Lording it all over the other puzzlers was the reward for being first. We did that well!

Well yesterday it rained all the way from Mobile to Huntsville. Was bordering close on being bad weather. Stopped in Clayton County for some peach ice cream. You’re missing out, dear!

Spaceman,
I will bypass peach ice cream given my aversion to peaches. Mint chocolate chip I’ll stop for!

This morning the temperature was in the 20s which is early for us to have a hard freeze. I had two of our instructors from our Toronto center in my class today and they said it was colder here than it was in Toronto yesterday. I said we can blame the Provence of Alberta and not Ontario. 🙂
The pet food business earns billions of dollars because we care for are our pets as much as we do our children or ourselves. 🙂 In the past pets ate our leftovers which today go in our garbage. We always fed our dogs duty kibble which contained 20% protein. They scarfed it down and all lived long lives.
I have been drinking my coffee black without sugar since high school. When I go into a Starbucks I spend less than $2 and skip all those calories and high prices.

Bob,
You are far colder than we have been. We did get into the 30’s a couple of nights but haven’t yet had a frost. We are going to have more rain on Thursday. I am so tired of rain.
My dogs get a vet physical once a year and shots when necessary. I do buy good food for them as it keeps them healthy. Even their treats are healthy. Henry is young so the vet bills are just regular maintenance,
I don’t like black coffee. I prefer mine with cream. I go to Dunkin Donuts as the only Starbuck’s is inside a super market.

Spaceman,
Impatiens seem to fold up and die quicker than most other flowers. They are pretty in summer and ugly come the first frost.
When I was in high school, our very first cat was hit by a car and died. Two other cats were poisoned. We never let our cats outside after that. I read once that cats only have a 50-50 chance to get home if they are let out. I’m glad yours was smart enough to find refuge with your neighbor.
I’m just fine with Dunkin. It seems more like a blue collar Starbucks.

Dunkin is perfectly fine with me. Or McDonalds for that matter. Black, like my women. I can’t remember where that movie line comes from.
I’m sensitive to letting the cat wander – but she loves the outdoors and it would seem cruel to not let her out. One of my neighbors moved like 3 years ago and left the cat (on agreement) with new owners. But apparently she didn’t like it that well and gradually moved in with me. As the weather gets colder, she will spend more time inside. And she does does have claws.

Spaceman,
All my cats always had claws even inside. One was a couch destroyer, and I often regretted her having claws. My last two cats were rescues. They were 5 when I got both of them. Cats don’t mind staying in when they have never had the run of outside. I have heard the screaming of cats when gotten by coyotes.I never want to hear that again.

Ya, it froze (first freeze) while I was away. Whacked the zincas and impatiens. Hey listen; you can keep all of that really cold stuff up there, please.
Speaking of pets, one of my neighbors was tending my kitty while I was away (letting her in and out). She vastly prefers outdoors. Called me Friday night in Mobile and said kitty was missing. Still gone as of Monday and not here when I returned same day. Was pretty worried. Thought that cat was coyote chow (been bad lately) – live next to a wooded land trust with lots of forest. But kitty is pretty clever and is adept at staying alive often staying out at night. Turns out kitty took up temporary residence with another neighbor lady & she brought her back today (hurrah!). .
Been to Starsbucks once (when I was in Colorado and couldn’t find anywhere else.). Figure that would last me.
