Since I found it yesterday I heard another song several times which also combines past and present and it’s also a special voice. Tom Waits is back and sang the old anti-fascists anthem Bella Ciao on Marc Ribot’s new album. It’s a great uncommon rendition, really honest and convincing, at least for me.
Birgit,
As with this Tom Waits, the Faithfull song is sung by a more mature, older singer. There is almost a plaintive sound to both of them. Tom Waits has a sadness, a wistfulness to his voice.

I just love her voice and singing.

I agree about it being honest and convincing.
