The world is back. I have turned off the air conditioning and opened the doors and windows. There is a stiff breeze and so much humidity my granite countertop is damp to the touch. Thunder showers are a possibility for later. I can believe it as the sky is cloudy dark. I’m glad I got all my deck pillows put away yesterday or I’d be scurrying today.
I can hear the birds, and I heard the truck idling in front of my neighbor’s house. It was a Dennis DPW truck. It’s gone now. Only the birds are left.
I am watching Forbidden Planet, one of my all time favorite science fiction films. It was released 62 years ago, but it is still an excellent film. The setting is a planet far from Earth. Robby the Robot thinks and has a personality. Morbius and Altaira, his daughter, are the only people left from the Earth expedition sent there 20 years earlier. Altaira is young and naive and knows nothing about men and allows herself to be kissed as an experiment. After all the kisses, she doesn’t get the hype promised by the lieutenant.
I looked up the movie’s cast members in the information provided on the screen. There was a picture of each cast member and the two writers. One writer was Cyril Hume and the other was William Shakespeare. I like Shakespeare getting credit. The plot of this movie is supposedly analogous to The Tempest.
I have a few maybe or maybe not things I can do. My laundry sits in the dryer wrinkling. My trash bag is full and waiting to be put in the trunk. Clumps of white dog hair need to be cleaned off the floor. It is all over the hall, den, stairs and kitchen. I am amazed at how much hair Henry loses.
I have bought some old postcards. One is of Main Street Hyannis in the days when it was a downtown filled with stores like Woolworths and Liggett Drugs. It is easy to date by the cars parked on Main Street. Another is a market scene in Ghana. It could be 50 years ago or it could be yesterday. Two others are of the cape in bygone days. A cranberry bog is being harvested by hand and Thompson’s Clam Bar is filled with diners. The last one is a black and white card of the angel in front of St. Patrick’s Grammar School. It was there when I went to school, and it is there now. My sister and I figure it was put there in 1910 when the school was built.
I get nostalgic for the old days when I look at the postcards. They chronicle the world I remember from when I was a kid. Sometimes I truly miss those days.

I rarely think back or miss the old days, unless I’m buying a train ticket because that was so much easier before I had to do it online 🙂 🙂 Still I do like old photos of my old home town and even more so from my old neighborhood.
I haven’t seen that film and to be honest I haven’t seen many films lately, I have been too tired because of the heat and now the heat has come back 🙂
Belgium seems to be kicking Brazil’s a.. in football right now, can’t even pretend that it makes me feel sad 🙂 🙂 The Brazilian football players, especially Neymar, falls to the ground screaming in pain if someone would sneeze from the grandstand 🙂 🙂 🙂

Christer, whatever talent Neymar has, and it’s hard to tell as he plays in the French League, is diminished by his character. I was very happy to see Belgium hand it to Brazil this afternoon.
And now the clock is ticking for England and Sweden

I like to reminisce about growing up. I still have several friends dating back to when I was 5 or 6. We share a history we cherish.
It is an old film considered a great science fiction film. It may be on YouTube as many complete films are.
I always chuckle at the fake pain. Basketball players tend to do the same thing.

Forbidden Planet was also one of my favorite sifi movies. It was in color and looks pretty good even today. Science fiction has become science fact in the last 62 years. I’m amazed that Spacex has developed a rocket that can be retrieved vertically from space just like in the science fiction movies. When I was kid in the 1955 we visited Disnylamd in California. There was a ride in Tomorrow Land that simulated a rocket trip to the moon on a TWA spaceship. I never thought that I would live to see men walk and drive on the moon or permanent space stations. I also never thought that Pan Am and TWA would be out of business.
There’s a slight chance of rain for tonight or tomorrow. There are some rain showers around us but not at my house. The humidity makes the 96 degree high temperature feel worse.

I know the special effects are far simpler than we see now, but I think the movie is well done. This has aged well.
I traveled PanAm often when I was going to Europe. I also took TWA but not as often. It was PanAm which represented plane travel for me. I always dreamed of the clipper ship and wished I lived when I could take one. They just seemed to go to romantic places.
We got rain today, and I just turned my air back on as the humidity is awful.

Both were victims of deregulation, thank you Jimmy Carter. 🙁 Who would have thought in 1973 that little Southwest Airlines with just three jets and three cities, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio, would now be a US Flag carrier (International Airline). Had I invested what little savings I had then in SWA stock I would be a multi millionaire today. 🙁

My uncle,who worked in the Wall Street area from the 1920s, told me he should have invested in IBM. However, he didn’t see much future in a typewriter company. 🙂

Of course if I could turn back the clock I wouldn’t be interested in investing my money, but instead trying to bed the best looking woman who I thought were out of my league… 🙂 Hormones always trump brains.
