You said you didn’t have much in the way of mockingbirds up your way. They are among the most interesting of domestic birds. The mocking part comes from their imitation of others birds calls. And I think they just make up some. I told you they like to perch when they are serenading from the highest point in the vicinity. Have one that hangs out in the crepe myrtle on the side of my drive way. I can’t tell the diff between males and females. Never see them in pairs except when they are engaged in local territorial disputes. They will harass the dickens out of hawks and crows to try to convince them to move elsewhere. Exclusively insect eaters. I tripped across this vid, I’m sure there are plenty of better ones

Spaceman,
I did look and found there are some in Massachusetts, but I don’t think there are any around here because I didn’t ‘t recognize the bird in the video. The long tail was distinctive.
I love the songs he (?) sings. I do wish the serenading was happening around here.

The question that perplexes me is why a wild animal (bird) would do this?

Spaceman,
I watched dancing mockingbirds so maybe tis too is part of the dancing ritual.
