“Something in the air this morning made me feel like flying. . .”

Some days are just right. Today is one of them. The sun is bright and warm. All of the rain from yesterday has nearly dried. Nothing is moving: the day is still. Henry woke me at 6 when he went downstairs. That always means he wants out. I went down and opened the door. Henry went out the dog door. I went back upstairs. I looked out the bedroom window and saw him under the pine trees, Gracie’s favorite poo spot. It seems to be his as well. He finished and then ran toward the back door. I saw a flash of white. He runs at breakneck speed. I went back to bed and shortly thereafter he joined me. We both slept for nearly three more hours. My coffee was delicious this morning. It is the same coffee I’ve had the last week, Kona coffee, but today it was perfect. I toasted a breakfast roll then checked out the fridge for jam or jelly. I found an almost empty jar with a fig spread. I put it on one side of the roll. After one bite, I knew why there was so little left. It is delicious. I filled in the crossword and figured out the cryptoquip. I love today so far.

Today is an errand day, but I don’t mind the four stops. They get me out of the house into the sunshine. I tend to get complacent. It is just so easy to stay home relaxed and comfy.

My house is still filled with clumps of white dog hair. It doesn’t matter how much I clean. The clumps return. Mostly they are in this room and down the hall though I did see a few in the dining room. They were moved by the slight breeze when I walk by them. I’m thinking inside tumbleweeds.

Today is May Day. It is a day to dance and eat cake. It is a day of promise. Spring is really here giving us warmer weather and longer days. Today we celebrate flowers coming to life. There used to be traditions. Baskets of flowers were left by front doors. There was dancing around the Maypole. I think it is time to bring back flowers and dancing. Lord knows we need the joy.

Today a thunderstorm passed by and we got caught in it when we were out for a walk. Lots of lightnings and it’s always exciting when one doesn’t know if it will hit close 🙂 🙂

May didn’t start especially warm here so it can only be better 🙂 They say it will be warmer later on this week and I wouldn’t mind if we got some sunshine too. I would like to bring out all the plants I have both in the cellar and in the rest of the cottage, lots of citrus plants that are becoming rather big now. I really need to figure out where to place them next winter 🙂

    Have a great day!

    Christer.

      Christer,
It was warm today. It stayed at 59˚ but with no wind it was nice. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 80’s in Boston and the 60’s down here. I can’t wait.

This is supposed to be a great week. I know we will never get as warm as off cape this time of year because of the ocean. It is still chilly. After it warms up, so will we.

      Have a great evening!

I don’t think that I ever saw a Maypole. It conjures up false images of Merry Olde England and clog dancers and Maddy Prior wannabes leaping around and waving ribbons and going down the pub. Maybe it ties in to those druid dudes doing their thing down the stonehenge

      My Dear Hedley,
I remember one Maypole. I was quite young. The hanging ribbons are the clearest memory.

I think the Druids were more into the solstice.

We’ve had a nice chilly spring day and public holiday (Workers’ Day) here today and went downtown to listen to free music but left early, it was boring. Enjoying garden, birds and icecream at home was the better choice.
I read the nearby village museum erected a maypole today but it’s a dying tradition. Nowadays maypole celebrations have lost their basic meaning and it’s just another reason to get drunk. Let’s make new traditions to get together and celebrate life.

      Birgit,
I did all 4 errands. It was just the best day to be outside. At the grocery store I bought flowers, brightly colored flowers, my May Day celebration.

Maypoles are definitely a dying tradition. That’s too bad. Most people here don’t even know anything about May Day. To celebrate life would be the best day!

    Hi Kat,
Definitely inside tumbleweeds. It’s especially so here since Rocky has a double coat and sheds prodigiously. Piki Dog sheds, too, but not as much. I can see clumps Rocky hair up against the bottom step, in the corners of the hallway, piled agains the heating registers. I vacuum but it’s a losing battle. Forget the carpet. It’s the same color as his fur. The only way I can see what’s there is to scrape it with an old Croc flip flop. I’m going to mount one on a stick to make that job easier. 🙂

Yesterday was lovely. Today is summer. I’ll take it.

    Enjoy the day.

      Hi Caryn,
This room is filled with Henry hair. I scooped up every day but it replicates itself. The white hair stands out against the floor. I broom or vacuum.

It was even summer down here!
