Leaving on a Jet Plane: Peter, Paul and Mary
When I went back to Ghana for the first time, forty years after I had left, my former students told me they wanted to sing Miss Ryan’s song for me, one they always sing when they are together. It was this song.

Every time I hear this song by them I remember how good they were and how much I miss Mary. No one can replace her.

Bob,
I totally agree. They were the first folk group I knew and I bought several of their albums with my allowance. They led me to older groups of the 50’s. I was a folkie because of them.
I have seen them in concert 3 times. I also miss Mary.

Nobody can replace this one, either:

Mark,
He was an original. I learned so many traditional folk songs from the Weavers and from Pete. This is a great song!

At your request, some bluegrass. Lyle Lovett does the more countrified version, but I like Ralph II’s a bit better. How about you? A close call. And I may be biased because I like Ralph Stanley’s music a lot.

Spaceman,
I know Ralph Stanley but not his son. This the first time I’ve heard him.
The Lyle just beat out the Stanley by a nose.
Thanks!
