Gosh there was so much going on with Eric in the Fall of 1970 including the release of “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs” . Layla was, of course Patti Boyd of Hard Days Night and George Harrison fame,
There were shows at the Fillmore which were bootlegged and later released by the label with startlingly brilliant long versions of stuff like “Got to get better in a little while”
The viaducts in London (well some of them) were daubed with “Clapton is God” and he disappeared for a couple of years to deal with narcotic issues. He came back, with the Rainbow Concert and 461 Ocean Boulevard
I have seen a lazy mail it in Eric and I have seen focused marvelous Eric.
Terrific pick for a Saturday Kat, it’s raining in Detroit but it’s got to get better in a little while

My Dear Hedley,
I missed all of that in the fall of 1970 as I was in Ghana and had no means of keeping up with what was happening at home. There was a lot of catching up to do when I returned in August of 1971. If you had asked me about Eric, I would have looked quizzingly at you. There are still gaps.
I think I have mostly seen and heard the marvelous Eric for which I am thankful.
The rain will be here this evening and there will be wind, as high as 50 MPH.

It’s funny. I hear a lot of “Golden Slumbers”/”Carry That Weight” in this song.
