Robert A. Heinlein quote
September 24, 2017 at 1:22 pm
I remember those cone shaped paper cups and cup holders that were popular at lunch counters, or luncheonettes and what now would be called fast food restaurants. A burger for a quarter was not cheap in those days. Families lived on $1200 a year right after WWII. In 1965, the year I graduated high school, I thought earning $35,000 a year was an upper middle class income. One could pay a twenty year mortgage on a three bedroom, two bath house with a two car garage, own two cars and go on vacations on that much money. Those were the days. π

Bob,
I also remember the coned shape cups. At my soda counter, they were put in metal holders.
This picture is from 1960 so I’m thinking a quarter isn’t too much to pay.
When I was a freshman in college (fall of 1965), my dad was making $13,000 a year. He paid his mortgage, my tuition and all household expenses from that amount. We were never in want either. They were the days indeed.

mincapt,
I didn’t recognize him at all. I think the only pictures I have seen of him were on the football field.
