And with Norm Whitfield wrote maybe the greatest Motown song of all time…..”I heard it through the grapevine”…fire up Marvin down Studio A at Hitsville.

My Dear Hedley,
I chose this song to fit my money theme today so I went looking for the original artist. That’s how I found Barrett Strong. I knew nothing of his background before I read this article. Defrauding artists seems to have been commonplace back in the old days. It is sad that Mr. Barrett did not know the law but for Motown it was not to its advantage.

Totally ripped off, a sad legacy of the early Motown days

MDH,
That it wasn’t really rectified is the saddest part.

I’m a couple of days late, so people may not see this… this is my favorite version of the song. From 1979, it’s The Flying Lizards doing their best Lene Lovich impersonations. (Interesting tidbit I read in the YouTube comments section… one of the members of the band is now 61 years old. Oy!)

im6,
I never listened to any other versions other than the one I posted once I found out who wrote the song.
This is so very different it doesn’t sound like the same song, but that’s not a bad thing. I like the quickness.
Yikes, they look like babies here.
